Strategy
Most people will be familiar with the basics of a Hoth walker deck, but here’s a recap; YMSYL cause direct damage ( 1 force for each marker site you occupy with an AT-AT). Once you have AT-ATs at 3 or more markers you will be able to play Walker Garrison to add 2 to your drains at EVERY Hoth location that turn. Your opponent will feel compelled to do something about this. The Ice storms and Frostbite can make this a big mistake for him(Ice Storm makes characters missing, Frostbite makes them lose force for missing characters). You should find an Ice storm pretty early, get it down (you feel so much better with one of these running round). Slowly but surely (don’t get greedy) build up your Walkers. Igar is the hero (adds a destiny), but any of the Ability 3 characters will get a destiny on one of the AT-ATs (they all have pilots) and the DTHACC will bump up your guys forfeit (helping keep the walkers alive). In an ideal world Vader and Tarkin will be on Tempest Sct 1 and Battle Deployment will be in effect (LS draw only one destiny, and you cancel it with Tarkin). Depending on your match up, Imp Decree and Surface attack can be real valuable. Spies are the true bane of this deck. The Barriers and Tramples should help against them. You shouldn’t have to much trouble finding marker sites to work with (you’ll have 2 on the table after the first turn). The Nemoidian advisors will help you find Hoth system (very key). Once you have the system out you can target it with (v)Sunsdown and Frostbite (LS think twice when they see that), and your Defels can be used to block drains at Hoth sites or drain safely in the cave (they hide from battle for 1 force). A small but very capable space force helps you satisfy Battle plan, and maybe drain for 3 at Hoth System (with Walker Garrison). This deck is simple and I think that’s its strength. Walkers are great; they rarely get targeted by weapons, and give you safety from Ice Storms that your opponent won’t have. And this deck can win even if your force drain bonuses get cancelled (from Menace fades or Jedi test 1), due to the direct damage aspects. I urge you to make this deck and give it a whirl. It’s a lot of fun. This is my first deck submission; let me know what you think. Cheers.
RESPONSES
REVELATION; Cheers for taking the time to read my deck. Fel is ability 3 (will draw destiny in any AT-AT in the deck) will add 3 to power of his vehicle, and with Code Clearance on table, is forfeit 8. There is not much draining going on at the start, just direct damage, so i dont find i need PFSA at the start (sometimes not at all. Then it becomes a high destiny to recirculate with Drop. The (v) Sunsdown is a big part of the deck (makes the force loss from Frostbite double), and once frostbite is down, and youv'e deployed an Ice Storm, Hoth is a VERY intimidating (and dangerous) place for Light Side. These cards are more than just cool flavor, they're deadly. Spread too thin? Ther's 8 different walkers in the deck, doubles of 2 of them. Findiing them isnt hard,or deploying them usually (the timing of when and what you deploy is the only real art to it. everything else just happens) And if LS come down? Good, they can come down and beat on one of your walkers with ability 3 pilot (the weakest I'd ever be ata site unless Tempest Sct 1 is out). There shouldn't be much overflow (if any), and now theres some characters to Ice Storm (nowhere to run from those things). Its a damned if they dont, damned if they do situation for LS.
SHEWSKI: I don't find it matters if LS figure out that I'm starting with (v)Sunsdown for Frostbite (I don't start with Frostbite). They can't do anything about it anyway :) Thats the beauty of the bad weather: if it deters great, if it doesn't, great. You could take out Fel, and maybe one of the Nemoidian advisors, and put in Piett and Merrejk if you wanted. Thanks heaps for the reveiw.
