Deck info

Introduction

This is the revised version of a deck I first posted months ago. I’ve been tinkering with it ever since then, and it’s enjoyed a great deal of success in casual play and some small, local tournaments. I’m looking for any suggestions you might have to make it better. Thanks.

The published list has 59 cards.

Strategy

The strategy is just like most other Hunt Down decks you’ve probably seen. Use IAO to grab your docking bays, Masterful Move to get the Holotable, and Dark Rage to get Deep Hatred. This will get rid of all the zeros in your deck. Get Vader and Maul out as soon as possible (I usually like to put Vader at my opponent’s location, using the Blockade Flagship Docking Bay only as a backup plan). While the deck is set up to duel, I’ve found that practically I will rarely do so. With their lightsabers and the high average destiny of the deck, Vader and Maul are usually able to take care of any of your opponent’s characters, including Jedi, without exposing themselves to a surprise defeat and being placed out of play (which did happen once, much to my dismay). If you feel that you do need to duel, use Deep Hatred to give Vader or Mara some Combat Cards. Use your other characters as backup wherever they might be needed. Finally, if you don’t need The Phantom Menace to protect Maul, you can use it to establish a drain at the Holotable.

Since I’ve spent so much time retooling the deck, I thought I would give a quick rundown of my card choices:

Boba Fett, Bounty Hunter: Still too good not to play even after Virtual Set #4. Destiny of 3 for a character isn’t bad, either.

Darth Maul, Young Apprentice: Deciding which version of Maul to use was probably the toughest decision I had to make. I experimented with both Tatooine Maul (for his dueling ability) and Maul w/ Saber (for card space), but this version always seemed to be the most helpful. The weapon destiny bonuses he gets against Jedi and his ability to increase my Force drains with his weapon are extremely useful (but I’m still open to ideas on the other versions).

Darth Vader: You can’t hunt Jedi without the man himself.

Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith: With the high destiny, I usually have pretty good luck choking people.

Dr. Evazan & Ponda Baba: With the high weapon destiny you usually draw, there are plenty of people for the doc to operate on.

Emperor Palpatine: Can’t argue with a destiny of 6 on a character.

4-LOM with Concussion Rifle: The ability to cancel game text automatically has saved me more times than I can remember. Also has a decent destiny of 3 for a character.

Grand Moff Tarkin: The original and still the best helper for Vader.

Mara Jade, The Emperor’s Hand: All around good character that can also duel Luke in a pinch.

P-59: Great built in weapon that causes direct damage and a decent destiny of 3.

P-60: Same as his brother P-59.

U-3PO: Best Dark Side spy ever.

Disarmed: Great to get rid of opposing lightsabers and a high destiny.

No Escape: Few things hurt this deck more than Honor of the Jedi.

The Phantom Menace: Good to either help Maul or drain at the Holotable. Also a destiny of 7.

Reactor Terminal: Recycle those high destinies.

Visage of the Emperor: In case the first one gets cancelled. Also a destiny of 7.

Deep Hatred: When you just have to make sure you win the duel.

Blow Parried: Extremely useful against those pesky LSC decks.

Dark Rage: Use it to fish out Deep Hatred. Also a 5 destiny.

Force Lightning: Insures you’ll hit most anybody. Also a used interrupt with a destiny of 5.

Imperial Barrier: Particularly useful for protecting Vader and Maul early in the game.

Masterful Move: Use it to fish out your Holotable or The Phantom Menace.

Maul Strikes: A 5 destiny with 3 great abilities (although dueling with Maul will cancel Hunt Down).

The Circle is Now Complete: Essential to almost any Hunt Down deck.

The Ebb of Battle: Put yourself over the top in a duel or cancel a huge drain somewhere.

Twi’lek Advisor: Another used destiny of 5 that can get you the effect of your choice.

Vader’s Obsession: Like The Circle is Now Complete, essential to almost every deck like this.

Blockade Flagship: Docking Bay: Great location you can pull. As I said before, I usually use this as a backup plan in those rare cases where my opponent doesn’t give me a battleground site for Vader. Also a good hiding spot later in the game because it is difficult for my opponent to chase me here after they’ve deployed elsewhere.

Coruscant: Docking Bay (Special Edition): Good location you can pull, but I usually wait to deploy this one so my opponent can’t convert it.

Death Star II: Docking Bay: Another good location that you can search for and almost never have to worry about defending.

Imperial Holotable: 2 Force that you rarely have to worry about defending. It is also an easy drain of 1 for you since the opponent usually isn’t prepared to defend it.

Blizzard 4: A great way to get Vader out early in the game and provide him with some hefty backup in the process. Destiny of 4 is pretty good, too.

Maul’s Double-Bladed Lightsaber: Maul’s weapon of choice.

Mara Jade’s Lightsaber: If you have Mara, you have to have her weapon, too.

Vader’s Lightsaber: Essential for Vader to have his weapon.

The biggest weakness I see with the deck is that I don’t have any space. This has rarely been a problem (even paying for Battle Plan is usually not a big deal since I often only have one site to pay for), but I hate to leave myself totally exposed in space. I have considered putting in Bossk in Hound’s Tooth, Zuckuss in Mist Hunter, Chimaera and Thrawn, Guri and Stinger, Xizor and Virago, and/or Maul’s Sith Infiltrator, but I’m not sure which ships would work best and what I should take out to make room for them. Ideas or suggestions? This has nothing to do with space, but I would also consider putting in Darth Sidious if I owned him. Any other suggestion you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
