U-3PO (Yoo-Threepio) is a Dark Character (Droid) from A New Hope.
Card Text
Deploy on opponent's side as an Undercover spy (except that if present during a battle at a site, adds its power to Light Side). If spy's "cover is broken," the above "game text" is canceled and Light Side may use as if 'stolen'.
Lore
This protocol droid served in the House of Alderaan's Diplomatic Corps. Imperials altered its programming for espionage, making the droid an unwitting spy for the Empire.

These recommendations remain subject to each card's target and timing conditions. The 2023 Advanced Rulebook, p. 174, permits Effects on an undercover spy and, except during battle, permits Interrupts and cards targeting spies to target it. This supports Program Trap deployment, Nevar Yalnal when both players have a spy at the site, and E Chu Ta's protocol-droid insult outside battle; it does not assert that E Chu Ta's separate battle-initiation function uses an inactive undercover droid. The original U-3PO is a protocol droid and undercover spy. Page 155 separately confirms his power contribution without participation and Light's option to decline stealing him when cover breaks. The data record labels its 2023 wording revision a clarification with no gameplay change, not original printed wording. Preserved data copy: Internet Archive (20 October 2026).
