DecipherCon 1999 Enhanced Sealed Deck
DecipherCon 1999 Enhanced Sealed Deck was a Star Wars CCG sealed side event at DecipherCon 1999 (Cavalier Hotel, Virginia Beach, Virginia). Decipher scheduled it as SW.20 Enhanced Sealed Deck (ECC+EPP) on Saturday 13 November from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 14 November from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.[1][2] It is a different event from the unofficial 1999 Decipher World Championship ECC Sealed, which World Championship players held late that night after the awards ceremony,[3] and from the DecipherCon 1999 Squadron Members Sealed Deck that began about midnight.[4]
Francis K. Lalumiere wrote that an ECC sealed event drew 176 players, "the biggest tournament in Star Wars CCG history", ahead of the 152 at Origins constructed.[5]
- Date: 13 November 1999 (Saturday heat); 14 November 1999 (Sunday heat)
- Site: Cavalier Hotel, Virginia Beach, Virginia
- Format: Enhanced Format Sealed Deck
- Players: 176 per Lalumiere;[5] 162[6] and "160+"[7] per Decipher photo captions
A score sheet is not preserved.
Ryan Patterson names the staff as himself, Alex Alcalde, "Lars M.", Jim Haskell, Josh Clark and Marcus Certa, with help during the day from Jim Van Fleet and Winfried Summerfield; Jeff Alexander joined them after his shift.[8][4] Deck building started three hours late, at 2 p.m. Not all 176 command cards had been entered, and after the second pairings the staff found that the software had the event as a Swiss tournament rather than sealed deck. While they fixed it, Certa brought in Jeremy Bulloch and Shannon Baksa to sign for the waiting players.[4] Forty-eight players were left for the last game, and play ended after 8 p.m., nine hours after it began.[8][9]
