Shannon Baksa (later Shannon Lynn McRandle, née Jones) is the model Decipher cast as Mara Jade. She was a special guest at DecipherCon 1999 and DecipherCon 2000. Her likeness is on Mara Jade, The Emperor's Hand from Enhanced Jabba's Palace and on the Light Side Mara Jade from Virtual Set 17.[1][2][3]

Decipher's DecipherCon '99 guest bio called her Star Wars' "Mara Jade": a professional model and make-up artist, cast by Decipher, who would sign photographs at the convention.[4]

Convention guest[edit]

At DecipherCon '99 (11–14 November 1999, Cavalier Hotel, Virginia Beach) she signed Friday 1–3pm and Saturday/Sunday 12–2pm. Francis K. Lalumiere wrote that she appeared as Mara Jade in full costume.[5]

At DecipherCon 2000 (5–8 October 2000, Kissimmee) she returned with Michonne Bourriague. Surviving official photographs show her signing table (6 October) and a magazine feature "Who is Mara Jade?" (8 October).

Likeness on SWCCG cards[edit]

The Star Wars Databank: "Decipher Inc. hired model Shannon Baksa to pose as Mara for a number of card images. Many subsequent products have since borne Baksa's likeness to represent Mara." The first cited product is the live-action photo for Enhanced Jabba's Palace.[1]

  • Mara Jade, The Emperor's Hand — Enhanced Jabba's Palace premium (die-cut pack with Bossk With Mortar Gun and You Can Either Profit By This...)
  • The same title as a Reflections II foil
  • Oversized Mara Jade, The Emperor's Hand convention promo (spend $20 at the Decipher store)
  • Oversized group promo: Mara Jade, Corran Horn & Talon Karrde (same store promo)
  • Light Side Mara Jade (Virtual Set 17) — Players Committee: "Mrs. McRandle image also appears on the LS Card Mara Jade from V-Set 17."[3]

Art director Dan Burns ran a local-model search; she later appeared as a Decipher convention representative with a lit lightsaber. An unproduced Decipher Light Side Mara was shot and never printed; that work later informed the Virtual Set 17 card.[6]
