Notes

  • Original-era (V): Commander Praji (V), Admiral Motti (V), Fear Will Keep Them In Line (V) x2 and Imperial-Class Star Destroyer (V) x3 (Virtual Set 2); Motti (V) and Come With Me (V) (Virtual Set 3); Imperial Domination (V) and Captain Lennox (V) (Virtual Set 4); Precision Targeting (V) (Virtual Set 5). The draft had dropped the (V) on Imperial Domination, Captain Lennox and Come With Me, and read Motti (V) as a second Admiral Motti (V).
  • Posted 'Captain Godhert' dested Captain Godherdt.

Strategy

Ok, ever since I saw the effect Precision Targeting in V5, I knew that I'd have to make a SYFCA variant with guns. I know that I've sacrificed overall effectiveness with this focus, but I still think you can have some fun and win an odd game or two with it.

Imp Command is your friend. If you can, get out an Admiral on your 1st turn so it won't be grabbed. YCHF can also get you Rendili or Carida. The goal is to get out Merrejk to get the rest of your systems. It is best to save up for a turn or two and then get him directly to an ISD. Use you Objective text to your advantage to see where he is, as well as any systems you may have activated.

From there, you are going to look to WMAOP for Fear (V) (you will want to use the Opp Enf shield or the combo effect, your choice). Cause some damage and drain with Admiral Chiraneau.

That's all well and good, but what about the guns? Precision Targeting is the linchpin of their use. This effect, once out, lets you download weapons onto your ships (for free) and let them fire at +1 each, which makes them actually capable of hitting targets. Since I'm starting Inc Losses, in essence you get 3 forfeit to reuse every turn.

Another benefit of these guns are increased power for your ISDs. The Heavy Turbolasers give you +2 power, and Motti (V) gives you +5 power (or +2, even w/o a gun). Motti is hard to get out,, but you can use Come With Me V to get him with relative ease.

CARD CHOICES

Gun Support Interrupts:

I use Main Reactor to knock out permanent pilots and to help set up some space defense/beats. I use Relentless Pursuit (aka DS Power Pivot) to get rid of a pesky ship, like the Outrider before the power segment of a battle.

Starship selection:

Some are pretty straightforward, like the V ISDs and the Chimaera, but here's why I picked the other ones:

Devastator- power 9, ability 2 perm pilot

Tyrant- deploy 7, bonus w/ Lennox (V)

Dominator- a Victory Class Star Destroyer, deploy 7, but only power 6. Lets Laser Cannon Battery fire twice per battle.

Judicator- adds 2 to each weapon draw, hit starfighters are power 0

Accuser- power 7, but hyperspeed of 4. Much like the Spiral, deploys for less as a react.

Thunderflare- deploy 7, power 9, Turbolaser batteries deploy and fire free onboard.

Locations:

All are low parsec to help Fear get set up faster. These are not the best drain systems, but they are great defensively as 3 of them give the opponent a drain of –1 if they knock you off the system.

Weapons:

Premeiere Turbos plain stink, so I didn't use them. Ion cannons are mainly for their nice destiny, but can be swapped for more of the other guns if you want to. Heavy Turbos have better text and destiny than their Premiere counterparts. If I had more Laser Cannon Batteries I would use them, since they are IMO the best capital gun out there.

Enjoy!

EDIT

Thanks for the review, BW! AMSD could be a good thing, and I had it in there while cutting it down to size, but doing the weapon theme limited my options. Needa and Avenger would be in there if I went that route. Big E is simply too expensive for me. Speed is the key to SYCFA, IMO, and while it is a tank, I can't justify spending almost 2x on what I do for a regular ISD.
