Reflections II Booster Draft is a booster draft format played with Reflections II packs. Decipher introduced it in January 2001 as a sanctioned Sealed Deck format, "Reflections II Sealed Deck: Booster Draft Format"; the Players Committee kept it in its tournament guides of 2007 and 2008, and in 2015 folded it into Reflections Booster Draft.[1][2][3][4]

  • Type: booster draft
  • Defined by: Decipher (2001); Players Committee (Official SW: CCG Tournament Guide, 2007 and 2008)
  • Card pool: 4 Reflections II booster packs per player, plus 6 battleground locations brought by the player (6 for each side from mid-2001); 40-card decks
  • In use: 2001 – 2008 (Players Committee guide); since 2015 part of Reflections Booster Draft
  • Also called: Reflections II Sealed Deck: Booster Draft Format (title of Decipher's rules page);[1] Reflections II Booster Draft Format (Decipher's tournament resources)[5]
  • GEMP: none. Reflections Sealed on play.swccg.com is a sealed (not drafted) league.

Card pool

Decipher (2001)

"Sealed Deck Booster Draft play is designed to provide a balanced tournament environment, while still maintaining an arena for creative deck construction."[1]

  • Locations: "Each player is allowed to bring with them any 6 battleground locations. The tournament director must inspect these cards before the drafting of packs begins. Players can then incorporate these battleground locations into their deck after drafting."[1] By June 2001 the page read "any 6 battleground locations for each side".[6]
  • Packs: "Each player must start with 4 packs of Reflections II."[1]
  • Groups: players sit in groups of 4, or of 6 when the numbers require it (8 players: 2 groups of 4; 10: one of 4 and one of 6; 12: 3 groups of 4; and so on). With an odd number of players the tournament director drafts a dummy hand, always in a group of 6, "and draft competitively".[1]
  • Drafting: each player is randomly assigned Light or Dark and is never seated next to a player of the same side. Each player takes one card for their own side from the pack; "there is no defensive drafting, you may only take cards from your side of the Force". Cards for the other side are passed on. The first pack passes to the left, the second to the right, and direction alternates after that. Nobody picks up the next stack until everyone has chosen.[1]
  • Deck: "Once the draft is completed everyone has 10 minutes to builds a 40 card deck. Any cards that the player does not use may be placed aside and substituted into their deck between games, always maintaining a 40 card deck. The tournament is then run using the regular Sealed Deck tournament rules".[1]

Players Committee (2007–2008)

The Players Committee's Official SW: CCG Tournament Guide lists Reflections II Booster Draft among its supported Sealed Deck formats: "Product required: 4 Reflections II booster packs / Rules: Booster Draft / Additional notes: Each player may bring with him six battleground locations that may be included in the player's deck. The tournament director should verify these locations' status as battlegrounds prior to beginning the tournament."[3][7] Its Booster Draft rules repeat Decipher's group table, seating and drafting rules, and give 10 minutes to build 40-card decks.[3]

History

Reflections II was released on 10 January 2001.[2] Decipher's Reflections II page announced: "Reflections II Booster Draft Format Introduced. Bring your combo cards and Expanded Universe characters - check out the new rules for sanctioned Sealed Deck that's focused on Reflections II."[2] Decipher's Sandy Wible had described the set's mix of cards from earlier products as making "for a great sealed deck tournament experience!"[8]

In 2001, and again in August 2002, Decipher's Star Wars tournament resources page linked a "Reflections II Booster Draft Format" page (reflections2.asp). Every preserved capture of that page is an error page; the rules survive on the Reflections II expansion page.[5][9] Decipher used the same four-pack, six-battleground draft, limited to Tatooine, Naboo and Coruscant battlegrounds, for its Reflections III pre-release weekend in October 2001 (see Reflections Booster Draft).[10]

The Players Committee's tournament guides of 2007 and 2008 list Reflections II Booster Draft and Reflections III Booster Draft as separate formats.[3][7] The 2015 Alternate Format Tournament Guide combines them into Reflections Booster Draft (4 Reflections, Reflections II or Reflections III packs), though its list of sealed formats still names Reflections II Booster Draft.[4]
