Players Committee

The Players Committee (PC)[1] is the volunteer organization that has run the Star Wars Customizable Card Game since Decipher stopped producing it. It maintains the rules, creates and updates virtual cards, organizes tournaments and championships, and promotes the game. It is led by the Advocate Council and is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.[2]
Mission
The PC states its goal as continuing the history, passion and friendly nature of the game, and manages it to prioritize gameplay over collectibility. Its virtual cards are distributed free of charge.[2] Its work is divided among teams that report to the advocates:[3]
- Rules: rulings, errata, and the Advanced Rulebook.
- Design and development: new virtual cards, playtesting, proofing and graphics.
- Tournaments: local, regional and world championships, and alternative formats.
- Marketing and communications: outreach, social media, prize support, news and player surveys.
- Technology: the GEMP online platform and the website.
Current advocates
The Advocate Council as listed on the PC's Community Card (March 2026):[4]
- Lead Advocate: Scott Lingrell
- Rules Advocate: Greg Zinn
- Design Advocate: Chris Kelly
- Tournament Advocate: Chris Schoenthal
- Marketing Advocate: Jared Napolitano
- Communications Advocate: Keith Brown
- Production Advocate: Mike Kessling
- Event Organization Advocate: Karl Koenig
Earlier advocates, year by year, are on Players Committee advocates.
Organization
The PC's organization chart shows a Lead Advocate and six advocates (rules, marketing, design, production, tournaments and communications), each supported by volunteer teams such as prize support, streaming, design and development, proofing, playtesting, graphics and the tournament committee. A GEMP technology team, a legal role and a store manager are shown alongside.[3]
Background
In December 2001 Decipher announced that it could not extend its Lucasfilm license, and it created a volunteer committee to carry the game forward.[2] The first six Player Advocates were named on 25 January 2002.[5] Cards could be distributed only electronically and for free, which led to the virtual card program (see V-slips and Virtual Original). The PC moved to its current site, starwarsccg.org, in June 2009,[6] and reset the competitive virtual card pool in 2014 (see Virtual Modern). More detail is on History of the Players Committee. Era hubs: Decipher era, Virtual Original, Virtual Legacy, Virtual Modern.
In 2002 the PC reduced the minimum for a sanctioned tournament to four players, and winners of various Opens could design a virtual card; Decipher donated $10,000 for World Championship prizes.[7] From 1 February 2003 Decipher turned over all prize support for sanctioned tournaments to the Players Committee, and from 1 January 2003 tournament ratings used a higher "K" value for higher-level events (16 local, 32 Level 1, 48 Level 2, 64 Levels 3–4).[8] The PC opened an online affiliate store with Universal Cards on 1 April 2003.[9] In June 2003 Decipher gave the PC a $5,000 "no-strings-attached" cash donation; about $2,000 paid to move Decipher's product donation from Colorado, and the rest went to the World Championship.[10] On 6 October 2003 the PC shipped the uncut-sheet prizes for the 2003 State, National and Open championships: foil Light Side or Dark Side Endor uncut sheets.[11] The PC marked its second full year on 10 February 2004 ("Two Years Strong").[12] From 1 June 2004 the PC charged approval fees for Mini-Opens ($35) and State Championships ($25) and sold prize packages (Ultimate $100, Premiere $50, States $35, Local $25);[13] late in 2004 Tournaments Advocate Michael Carr cut them to $90, $45, $30 and $20/$10 plus shipping, noting that the PC had "spent over $1000 on shipping prizes" the year before.[14]

Logo history
The current logo is the horizontal lockup of the STAR WARS Customizable Card Game box mark and the words PLAYERS COMMITTEE. It has been the header logo of starwarsccg.org since 2013.[15] The box mark is also used on its own, in white on black or black on white, as the avatar of the committee's GitHub organizations.[16] The nonprofit site playerscommittee.org uses a separate SWCCG / PLAYERS COMMITTEE mark.[17]
