Jerry Darcy

Jerry Darcy was the lead designer of Decipher's Star Wars Customizable Card Game (SWCCG) from A New Hope (1996) through Endor (1999). He created Objectives.[1][2]
The credits page of the Premiere Two-Player Introductory Game rules booklet (1995) thanks Jerry Darcy "for believing you have the best job in the universe".[3]

SWCCG work
Darcy came to Decipher through Technical Game Services, the company of Tom Braunlich and Rollie Tesh. He moved from Cincinnati and started on 14 April 1995, during Premiere, to work out card details.[4][6] In the nightly card sessions, Braunlich proposed functions and Darcy set the numbers.[7] Braunlich credits Darcy with most of the names Decipher invented for background characters, and Jason Winter recalls that he wrote much of the cards' lore.[8][9] As lead designer he reviewed card ideas from Chuck Kallenbach, Tom Lischke and Mike Reynolds. He set the themes and mechanics of Endor before moving to Young Jedi.[10] Darcy discussed the early expansions in a series of KendallCast interviews.[11][12][13]
Objectives
Darcy created Objectives, introduced in Special Edition, because numbers decks had come to dominate. He wanted movie storylines, such as freezing Han in carbonite or destroying a planet with the Death Star, to become deck strategies. His first version stretched the Epic Event layout across the whole card, which left no room for art. The fix came at a mall food court, when he saw a pepperoni stuck under a pizza slice: cards have two sides.[2]
Krayt Dragon
While Decipher worked on Premiere, West End Games identified the bones seen in A New Hope as a krayt dragon's, which inspired Krayt Dragon Howl. Darcy then pushed for a dragon card of its own, and artist Joe Boulden built the image for Krayt Dragon in Special Edition.[14] Darcy has not worked on Star Wars since 2000.[15]
Other
Darcy is thanked in the credits of the Jedi Knights Trading Card Game rulebook (2001).[16] The GeoCities anagram table maps Rayc Ryjerd and Rycar Ryjerd to Jerry Darcy, Djas Puhr to his cat Jasper, and Laudica to Claudia Darcy.[17]
