Classic (no v-cards) (Modified)
Classic (no v-cards) (Modified) is a retro constructed format: Classic (no v-cards), Decipher cards without Episode I or Maintenance icon cards, with the Reflections III Defensive Shields and their two Starting Effects allowed. It was first played at the 2025 Retro Invitational Player's Ball, where it was called "Classic No V (Modified)".[1][2]
- Type: constructed
- Defined by: 2025 Retro Invitational Player's Ball (organizer Andy Talaga, 2025); GEMP definition in the Players Committee code
- Card pool: every Decipher card except Episode I and Maintenance icon cards, with all Reflections III Defensive Shields and their Starting Effects
- In use: 2025 –
- Also called: Classic No V (Modified), CNVM[2][3]
- GEMP: Classic (no v-cards) (Modified) (
classic_no_virtual_m) on both the Players Committee GEMP and play.swccg.com
Card pool
The pool is every Decipher-printed card, set ids 1–14 and premium ids 101–112. Cards with the Episode I or Maintenance icon are banned. Unlike Classic (no v-cards), the definition does not ban the Defensive Shield icon.[1] The definition also lists 14 Reflections III cards that are legal even though they carry the Episode I icon: twelve Defensive Shields and the two Starting Effects An Unusual Amount Of Fear (Light Side) and Fear Is My Ally (Dark Side).[1][4] A card on that list skips the format's other checks.[5] The twelve shields are A Close Race, A Tragedy Has Occurred, Another Pathetic Lifeform, Don't Do That Again, Only Jedi Carry That Weapon, Planetary Defenses, Allegations Of Corruption, Fanfare, Weapon Of A Sith, We'll Let Fate-a Decide, Huh?, Wipe Them Out, All Of Them and You've Never Won A Race?.[1][4] Every other Reflections III Defensive Shield has no Episode I icon and is legal without being listed.[1][4]
The GEMP format definition sets no deck size, so GEMP uses its default of 60 cards.[6][7]
The 2025 Retro Invitational Player's Ball defined the environment as no virtual cards, plus the Reflections III Defensive Shields and their Starting Effects, with no other cards banned.[2]
History
The format was first used at the 2025 Retro Invitational Player's Ball, a 16-player invitational organized by Andy Talaga on GEMP from 2 November to 20 December 2025, which Timo Dusel won.[2][3] The 2026 Retro League made it Event 4, 27 September – 8 November 2026.[8]
