Strategy
- Strategy**
<Overview>
This deck follows the usual CCT Space strategy of first turn Executor + Lando (V). The way it wins is pretty standard; drain at systems and at the same location as Jabba’s Prize with (V) Despair and the (V) I-TO.
My deck is different than the usual CCT space in that it utilizes bounty hunter ships instead of the destiny-drawing Imperial class Star Destroyers. Since most LS decks these days pack the token Bright Hope (V) + Tantive IV and/or Spiral space package, I feel that the bonus traits of the bounty hunter ships like adding destinies and reducing the opponents’ draws are more useful than bigger drains with Chiraneau. The bounty hunters can be used on the ground in a pinch with Oota Goota Solo to inflict some extra attrition, too.
My main ground-pounders are Vader, Maul, Tarkin, Palpatine, Mara and Janus. I’ve included U-3PO to mess with my opponents’ drains at battlegrounds, since (V) Imperial Decree will cover me as far as non-BG drains and damage go. IG-88 can either go in space with another bounty hunter to add a destiny or stick to the ground as a support/capture character.
<Card Selections>
All Too Easy- It’s hit and miss, but a nice destiny five and can put a character out of commission for the game.
Weapon of an Ungrateful Son- This card is good vs. TIGIH, Profit, and any other deck that likes to take advantage of lightsaber drain bonuses. Destiny 5 and can get me some pseudo-retrieval late in the game by circulating devices back into my life force.
Shut Him Up Or Shut Him Down/ This Is Some Rescue!- These are my token high destiny counter-cards. I usually just use them with Janus, but every once in awhile they come in handy to cancel something.
Fondor- Like I indicated above, Spiral and Tantive IV are popular. Deploy +1 and forfeit -4 will hurt them. I definitely won’t pull this one until after I’ve gotten Executor out.
Tarkin’s Orders- A destiny four that cancels a variety of annoying interrupts, but also is useful for the drain canceling. Since I have early control of Bespin, I can use this function to its fullest.
Levitation Attack (V)- pulls replacement Carbonite Chamber Console, Restraining Bolt, and (V) Deflector Shield Generators from under my Starting Effect. Choose two.
Take Evasive Action (V)- Cancels T-47 Battle Formation, Fly Casual and Fallen Portal. It can also be used to mess with permanent weapon targeting, potentially useful.
Projective Telepathy and Imperial Barrier- These both can be used to mess up my opponent’s offensive battling by forcing them to wait a turn or two to finally have all of their deployed characters available. Projective Telepathy works on their force drains as well. Imperial Barrier works well with (V) Firepower.
- Wrap-up**
Well, that’s about all I can think of right now. The deck is pretty easy to play and is versatile, being able to effectively combat many of the lightside strategies out there. Any constructive advice/criticism would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading, God bless, and MTFBWY.
- EDIT***
moogle: Thanks for the review. Any DS deck is going to have a bit of a struggle against LS space like HB, so I feel mine is just as up to the challenge as another is. Also, see the comments below directed at sithborg (and you).
sithborg: I appreciate your comments, but as I stated in my strategy section, I chose the bounty hunter ships because of a number of factors that in my mind made them better than star destroyers. I originally had destroyers in this deck, but the Bright Hope + Tantive IV combo was wiping the floor with them during playtesting. They have a much harder time against the bounty hunter ships, though. As far as Chiraneau goes, he only adds one to the drains and the bonuses are cancelable by Menace Fades, Great Warrior, etc. In my mind that really isn't worth it for a deck that is balanced for both ground and space.
