The 2003 World Championship was the 8th Star Wars CCG World Championship, run by the Players Committee at Dragon*Con in Atlanta, Georgia, over the convention's Labor Day weekend (29 August – 1 September 2003).[2][3][4] Jonny Chu defeated Greg Shaw in the final; the Players Committee's results give his decks as "Combat / Senate".[2][4][5] A third-place match was played, in which Clint Hays took 3rd over Bastian Winkelhaus; a forum poster recalls 2003 as the only year this was done.[4][6] The field size has not been found.
The Players Committee announced the venue on 23 March 2003, after players had learned that there would be no DecipherCon that year; the Young Jedi and Jedi Knights World Championships moved to Gen Con.[7] Dragon*Con 2003 was held in the Hyatt Regency Atlanta (265 Peachtree Street NE) and the Atlanta Marriott Marquis (265 Peachtree Center Ave).[1] The cash purse was $3,500, and the top 8 received glass trophies.[8] After the event Decipher re-rated the World Championship with a "64K" value, which made Chu the new #1 ranked player.[4]
The constructed pool was printed Decipher cards through Theed Palace plus the original Players Committee Virtual Sets then legal. The wiki files it under Premiere - Original VS5, from the newest virtual cards in the published lists. Virtual Set 5 became tournament-legal on 6 June 2003,[9] and the Committee did not release Virtual Set 6 until 21 November 2003,[10] so Virtual Set 5 was the newest set legal at Worlds. Rules Advocate Greg Anderson's rules sheet of 23 August 2003 (final version 25 August) was the version used at Worlds.[11]
Results
Final places 1–8 and each player's deck pair, as announced by the Players Committee in its news of 5 September 2003 and repeated by TheForce.Net on 7 September.[4][5] Two 2020 forum posts give the same top 8.[12][13] The Dark and Light columns link the published wiki decklists; Chu's are his Day 2 lists, not the Combat / Senate pair he won with.

Schedule and prizes
The Players Committee's first schedule (June 2003) was:[8]
- Friday 29 August: 10 AM Day 1 qualifier in Classic format and 2 PM Day 1 qualifier in Open format, each six games of Swiss with the top 25% qualifying for Day 2. A player doing poorly in the first could drop and play the second.
- Saturday 30 August: 3 PM Day 2, eight games of Swiss, top 8 to Day 3.
- Sunday 31 August: 10 AM Day 3, single elimination with match play: each match was one Light and one Dark game against the same opponent, untimed.
- Monday 1 September: 12 PM award ceremony.
The Dragon*Con event page (August 2003) gave the final schedule: Day 1 Classic at 9 AM and Day 1 Open at 1 PM ($5 each; six games of Swiss, eight if more than 32 players; top 20% to Day 2, minimum 4; only for players without a Day 2 bye), Day 2 at 2 PM on Saturday (free; eight games of Swiss, top 8 to Day 3), Day 3 at 11 AM on Sunday ("Cash for Top 4") and the awards at 12 PM on Monday. In Day 3 the higher seed chose the first matchup, and "differential will be used in the case of split matches".[1] The final notice of 28 August added that every PC event carried a $2 charge paid to Dragon*Con, a Dragon*Con badge was required, decklists were required for Days 1, 2 and 3, and posted times were registration times, with play starting one hour later.[11]
The confirmed cash prizes were:[8]
| Place | Prize |
|---|---|
| 1st | $2,000 |
| 2nd | $1,000 |
| 3rd | $350 |
| 4th | $150 |
Side events
The Players Committee's Dragon*Con schedule listed these Star Wars CCG side events: a free Hoth Scenario constructed event and an EPP Overdrive Sealed Deck ($10) on Friday; Classic constructed ($5) and Episode 1 Sealed Deck ($10) on Saturday; Secret Squirrel Sealed Deck ($10), Episode 1 constructed ($5) and Highlander constructed ($5) on Sunday; and free Classic constructed and Secret Squirrel Sealed Deck events on Monday.[1] The PC also posted descriptions of these formats.[14] A free OTSD Sealed Deck event at 12 PM on Sunday was offered to everyone who attended but did not qualify for Day 3, and "on the spot" 4-player tournaments could be run at any time.[11] No side-event results have been found.
