Formats

Formats are the organized-play card pools and event types used for Star Wars CCG tournaments and casual games. Decipher-era play used printed cards under Decipher rules. After Decipher ended the game, the Players Committee added virtual cards and labeled constructed environments (notably Standard after the 2014 Virtual Card Reset, and Legacy for the pre-reset virtual pool).

This page is a short index. It does not replace official tournament documents. Full format definitions, banned lists, and event procedures live on starwarsccg.org and in the PDFs linked below.

Constructed (Players Committee)

Constructed events use pre-built decks. The Players Committee Alternate Format Tournament Guide (revised September 2015) describes two primary constructed pools:

• Standard - Decipher cards plus the post-2014 "reset" / current Virtual Set cards (slanted-ring virtual set icon). Described there as the usual championship-circuit constructed environment, including Worlds.
• Legacy - Decipher cards plus Legacy Virtual Cards from before the Fall 2014 reset (black-diamond virtual block icon). The 2014 World Championships was the last championship circuit to use that pool.

Some later PC articles and events also say Open for constructed decks that include Virtual Cards and Shields. This wiki does not equate "Open" with "Standard"; use the event's own wording and linked docs.

Deck construction size and "outside the deck" cards (for example Defensive Shields under a Starting Effect) follow the tournament document in force for the event; see the Tournament Guide and Players Committee Advanced Rulebook.

Limited / sealed and draft

Sealed and booster-draft events use unopened product (or a fixed cube pool) instead of a full constructed library. The same Alternate Format Tournament Guide lists product-specific sealed and draft variants (examples: Premiere Sealed, Official Tournament Sealed Deck sealed/draft, Enhanced Premiere Pack Overdrive, Death Star II sealed/draft, Reflections booster draft, Secret Squirrel) and Watto's Cube (a fixed ~450-card draft pool). Cube details and the official cube list are maintained by the Players Committee at starwarsccg.org/cube.

Decipher-era constructed pools

Decipher Worlds used the printed sets legal at the time, from Premiere through the newest expansion:

• Premiere - A New Hope — 1996 Decipher World Championship
• Premiere - Cloud City — 1997 Decipher World Championship
• Premiere - Special Edition — 1998 Decipher World Championship
• Premiere - Endor — 1999 Decipher World Championship
• Premiere - Death Star II — 2000 Decipher World Championship; also 2021 Retro Event (Premiere to Death Star II) and later GEMP Retro / Premiere-to-DSII events
• Premiere - Reflections II — 2021 Worlds Throwback Event (Premiere through Reflections II)
• Premiere - Reflections III — 2001 Decipher World Championship
• Premiere - Theed Palace — 2022 Decipher Cards Only Retro Event (GEMP environment name Decipher Cards Only)

Later Players Committee events also use Open, Jawa Format, Premiere - Theed Palace (Decipher Cards Only), and (for the 2025 charity event) Premiere to Virtual Set 3.

GEMP environments

play.swccg.com (this wiki's GEMP table) and the Players Committee GEMP table expose named constructed environments that limit the legal set pool. Names below are taken from the GEMP format list (swccgFormats.json) and from published PC event pages — this wiki does not invent format labels.

• Premiere - Death Star II (premiere_ds2) — Decipher sets from Premiere through Death Star II (GEMP set ids 1–9 and matching premium/reflections ids as configured on the table). Used for the 2021 Retro Event (Premiere to Death Star II) and the 2026 Retro GEMP Match Play Championship (Premiere to DSII).
• Premiere - Reflections II — printed Decipher sets from Premiere through Reflections II. Used for the 2021 Worlds Throwback Event.
• Open — current virtual constructed environment (Decipher cards plus current Virtual Sets and Shields). Used for the 2026 Tenth Annual GEMPC.
• Premiere - Theed Palace (open_no_virtual, GEMP name Decipher Cards Only) — Decipher sets from Premiere through Theed Palace. Used for the 2022 Decipher Cards Only Retro Event.

Other GEMP environment names exist on the table; add stub pages here only when a PC or GEMP source names them for a documented event.

Other labeled formats

The Players Committee maintains additional constructed and casual formats under the SWCCG Formats menu on starwarsccg.org (examples with dedicated pages: Jawa Format (PC page), Utinni!, Watto's Chance Cube). Full definitions, banned lists, and version notes stay on those PC pages - this wiki does not copy them here. Other menu entries (for example 100 Card Deck Format, Limited Resources, Scavenger Format) are listed on the PC site; add wiki one-liners only after citing those pages.

Closed-environment and themed constructed variants described in the Alternate Format Tournament Guide (Classic, Episode I Closed Environment, Battle of Endor Environment, team events, The Bith Shuffle, and others) are likewise defined in that PDF rather than on this page.
