Talk:FreedomCon

Missing data
- The event schedule and format list (decktech.net/freedomcon/events.php) has no Wayback capture that I could open, so the card pool actually used at FreedomCon is not confirmed from a FreedomCon source. 2001 Decipher World Championship and Premiere - Reflections III state Reflections III; I kept that for the deck's Format line.
- Finishes 5–8 are only recalled on the forum (Scott Lingrell, Andy McClure, Kevin Shannon, Brad Reinhold); no bracket or report found.
- DeckTech's own tournament report for FreedomCon was not located. Search decktech.net/freedomcon/buzz.php captures next.
Possibly faulty data
- DeckTech's page gives 3rd Hayes Hunter, 4th Brian Hunter; a 2020 forum post gives them the other way round. I used DeckTech.
- The hub previously said players ran FreedomCon "under the same qualification rules". I found no source for the qualification rules and removed that phrase. DeckTech's pages describe an open, pre-registered event ($30/$35).
- Decipher did not recognize FreedomCon (statement of 9 November 2001, TheForce.Net); the Players Committee's World Champions list does count it. Both are stated on the article.
Marginal cuts
- Sponsors and prize donors (GamersEdge, Wizards of the Coast / Star Wars Fan Club, Comic Images; Scott Lingrell was among the individuals credited with donating over $200 in cash or prizes). Source: DeckTech FreedomCon home page.
- Winners of the other games' championships are listed in one sentence only.
Build notes
- Primary sources are three Wayback captures of decktech.net/freedomcon/ (home 1 December 2001; about 19 February 2002; attend 13 January 2003) and TheForce.Net's copy of Decipher's statement (saved to Wayback 12 October 2026, because no earlier capture existed).
- Scott Lingrell's deck was listed under Miscellaneous decklists on his page; it is now a Tournament Results row for the 2001 World Championship. The deck page keeps DeckTech's published title. The DeckTech decks table keeps DeckTech's posting-date pool label (Original VS1) for the 23 March 2002 post.

2026-10-13 expansion: FreedomCon Philadelphia 2002
Missing data
- No winner or standings found for the FreedomCon Philadelphia 2002 Star Wars CCG event (the "Star Wars CCG Master Event" topic on the 17 October 2002 board capture). Searched Wayback captures of decktech.net/freedomcon/ (2002–2005), the buzz.php topic list, the local DeckTech post dump and the web. Per the rule, no separate tournament article until a winner is sourced. Next: open the 2014 Wayback captures of individual buzz.php?id= topics.
Build notes
- Identity (small-world rule): the home page's organizer "'Mighty' Mike Carr" is treated as Michael Carr (forum handle mc9457, a Pennsylvania tournament director per his 2004 PC bio); the board shows topics by both "Mike Carr" and "mc9457". Redirect Mike Carr → Michael Carr added.
- Hayes Hunter (3rd, 2001) is now linked to Hayes Hunter under the same rule.

2026-10-16 Worlds dest
- Hatnote and pictures added. Canonical Worlds title stays 2001 Decipher World Championship; FreedomCon 2001 is the dab. Linked Monica Jones on the 9 November 2001 statement.
- Venue: no licensed Sheraton Oceanfront exterior. Gallery uses the 2005 oceanfront fishing-pier photograph.

2001 heading and 2002 Worlds (2026-10-16)
- SWCCG section heading is now 2001 Star Wars CCG World Championship.
- FreedomCon Philadelphia 2002 (NeoQuest Games, Lansdale, 4–6 October 2002) is a separate DeckTech charity convention. The 2002 World Championship was at DecipherCon 2002, Chesapeake Conference Center, Virginia Beach, 1–3 November 2002.
- Circa-2001 oceanfront photograph added to the gallery.

Style pass (2026-10-16)
- Tightened the hub. Dropped the duplicate Worlds sentence, the 3rd/4th forum disagreement (still under Possibly faulty data), the DeckTech copy of Jones's notice, the 2002 buzz.php topic list, and the repeating Sources list.
- Lead thumbs are now the FreedomCon banner and the circa-2001 oceanfront photograph, matching the two-venue-thumb layout on 1998 Decipher World Championship and 1999 Decipher World Championship. 2005 pier stays in the gallery.

all_champs.jpg (2026-10-16)
- File:FreedomCon 2001 all champions.jpg is DeckTech's
all_champs.jpg. None of the four labeled Star Wars medalists fromChamps.jpgappear in it. - Faces match the Jedi Knights photo (
jk_champs.jpg) and the Star Trek photo (yj_champs.jpg). Brian Muller (JK champion; 24th at 2000 SWCCG Worlds) is the bearded player with the plaque. - Justin Beal (JK 3rd) played SWCCG at the event; his face in the JK photo is not labeled.
