Not a duplicate of the other Saturday sealed events (2026-10-27)

Alpha4 asked whether 1999 Decipher World Championship ECC Sealed and DecipherCon 1999 Enhanced Sealed Deck are the same event. They are not. The sources describe three separate sealed events on Saturday 13 November 1999:

  • Enhanced Sealed Deck (SW.20): Decipher's official event, scheduled 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Its staff say deck building began at 2 p.m. and play ended after 8 p.m. It had 176 players by Lalumiere's, Patterson's and Alcalde's count (162 or "160+" in Decipher's photo captions), and Mark Schaffer won (Patterson). No score sheet survives; SW.20 is not among the 31 archived score pages.
  • ECC Sealed (Lush): Matt Lush calls it an "unofficial world qualifier ECC sealed deck late Saturday night after the awards ceremony". He went 3–1 and lost only to Stuart Jones; he also beat Yannick Lapointe. Martin Akesson describes two sealed events that day: "one sealed deck tourney while watching the finals" (during SW.20), then, "after the dinner", "another sealed deck tournament" where he won one game, lost two and had a bye. No winner and no player count are recorded.
  • Squadron Members Sealed Deck: Squadron Members only, about 28 players (Alcalde, "i think"). They met at 11:30 p.m., played Players' Choice with OTSDs and packs, and finished about 3 a.m. (Jeff Alexander, Alex Alcalde).

The time, official status, format (ECC vs OTSD), players and winner all differ, so none of the pages should be merged. Each page now says which event it covers, and each links the other two in See also. Comlink Cursor (talk) 20:35, 27 October 2026 (UTC)

Review of the page (2026-10-27)

  • It is a real, separate event. It is linked from DecipherCon 1999 and List of SWCCG tournaments.
  • Fixed two points against the sources. Jeff Alexander was helping to run the Saturday Players' Choice event (SW.21) when he left it; he was not a player in it. Alcalde implies that Jim did the pairings, but says nothing of the kind about Ted.
  • For checking: the strict capture check rejects the Report No.4 capture (Wayback 2 February 2019), calling it "a Wayback error page". The capture is real: there is a CDX row, and replay returns Alcalde's report. Alcalde writes "Hrm...", which matches the checker's error-page pattern. This is a false positive in the checker, not a bad source, and the same capture is cited on DecipherCon 1999 Enhanced Sealed Deck. The other capture on the page (Report No.2) passes.
  • Judgment calls, left as they are: "28 (i think)" is Alcalde's estimate and has no second source. "Ted" and "Jim" are not identified. None of the 31 archived DecipherCon score pages covers this event; the SW21_3 Players' Choice sheet (31 players, Rick Gaudioso first) is Decipher's official Players' Choice, not this event.
