Introduction

The Tusken Breath Mask (V) controversy intensifies with a new take on scrub alien drains. Additional credit for developing the concept goes to Alden Peterson, as well as to all of the players who insisted that 'neo-AitC was not broken.' To the latter: it's all your fault that this deck will be in the hands of players everywhere. And to the SWCCGPC: Please errata TBM(V). AitC is just the first of many deck archtypes that will be broken because of this card....

Strategy

First off, you'll notice that in this deck, the "only" retrieval is coming from Yerka Mig (V), Uh-Oh! (V), Attark (V), and No Love For The Empire. You *could* also use Jess (who doesn't have a species), Figrin D'an (who just isn't the best Bith for this deck), as well as effects like First Strike and Civil Disorder (V), but I find that each of those cards detract from what should be your main goal: +10 Force drain damage starting with turn three. If you want a timed win, play the other guys' decks. If you want a full win by a lot, play this one. Dragging the game out with conservative Force drains and huge retrieval only gives the opponent more time to find the anti-AitC metacards they will be packing. Play aggressive. Play for a win by turn five. If you try playing the deck without key cards being duplicated, you run the risk of a failed first turn. The most common reason for neo-AitC to lose is directly linked with poor setup.

Here's how you do it:

Turn One: You're guaranteed at least six activation. Use 1 Force with Yarna (V) to pull a Tatooine battleground, while checking your Reserve for at least one copy of the following cards: Leslomy (V), Tusken Breath Mask (V), Yerka Mig (V), Bo Shuda, and Jabba's Palace: Audience Chamber; if all are accounted for deploy the Audience Chamber (if possible, deploying it as the end location so that the Antechamber is adjacent to exterior sites). Following that, deploy Leslomy (V) from Reserve for free to the JP:AC using the text of Bargaining Table (V). Use Uh-Oh! (V)'s text to deploy a musician from Reserve (for 1-2 Force) to the JP:AC, choosing Oola if your opponent is using a Force-intensive strategy, or Max Rebo otherwise. Use Leslomy (V)'s text to deploy Yerka Mig (V) from Reserve to the JP:AC. Use 3 Force with Wokling (V) to deploy Tusken Breath Mask (V) from Reserve (even if you have another copy in your hand). Recycle.

Turn Two: You should activate 8 Force. This will be the most important turn during the entire game. If you can afford Oola's text, now is a great time to use it. Otherwise, you're set to deploy en masse. Use Yarna (V)'s text to deploy a Tatooine: Desert from Reserve for 1 Force (checking for Ellors Madak (V)), inserted between any JP sites and the Hutt Trade Route. Ellors (V) should be there as well, so use Leslomy (V) to deploy it too. Use Bargaining Table (V) to deploy Attark (V) from Reserve to the AC (for free).

      • Before continuing with turn two, here are some facts you'll want to be aware of:

There are a minimum of three Tatooine battlegrounds on table, and if you have at least three aliens and a site in your hand (odds are you'll have four aliens and one site), your more than ready to flip. Odds are high that you'll have in hand either a Kitonak, or an Interrupt that will pull a Kitonak from Reserve or Force Pile. If so, use Uh-Oh! (V) to deploy Max Rebo (1 Force) from Reserve to the AC if he's not already there. Deploy one alien to the Antechamber, one to the Hutt Trade Route, and finally, deploy your Kitonak to the Tatooine: Desert. Flip your objective.

You now have three aliens alone at three different sites. Most likely you have seven different races on the table, more than satisfying Ellors Madak (V) (there are 23 unique races in this deck altogether, and not a single deckslot is wasted on a card that doesn't contribute to Ellors (V)). Counting all bonuses from each of the effects on table (and Max Rebo), here's a list of each character remaining in the deck, their deploy cost, power, and forfeit (not counting Uh-Oh! (V) or game text power bonuses):

Arcona: 1,1,2

Caldera Righam: 1,2,6

Dash Rendar (V): 3,3,7

Deneb Both: 3,1,7

Droopy McCool: 1,2,8

Freon Drevan: 2,3,6

Jar Jar Binks: 2,3,5

Joh Yowza: 1,2,8

Kal'falnl C'ndros: 0,1,7

Kitonak: 0,1,5

Leesub Sirln: 1,1,6

Loci Rosen: 2,0,5

Melas: 3,2,6

Oola: 1,1,8

Shasa Tiel: 1,1,6

Sic-Six: 2,2,3

Tawss Khaa (V): 2,3,6

Tedn Dahai: 1,1,9

Tessek: 1,1,6

Yarkora: 1,1,2

You should be able to deploy everything, and maybe have some Force left to spare. Leave your aliens alone at each site (the power bonus from No Love For The Empire isn't worth sacrificing the heavy drains for). Your opponent has a serious dilemma to face...

Dark Side Turn Three: They generate a lot (not to mention that Drop is scoring them a lot of Force or draws), but the task is daunting, as they have to bring 20 power just to have a shot at creating battle damage. Taking our two weakest aliens (Gran and Yarkora) and our Kitonak as an example, here's how the numbers stack up:

Yarkora alone at the Antechamber gives the LS 6 total power, 2 forfeit, a battle destiny draw of at least 2, and immunity to 7 battle damage. With a 0 drawn for battle destiny, the opponent still has to bring 18 power to get any battle damage through (you'll retrieve it with Attark (V) anyways).

Arcona alone at the Hutt Trade Route gives the LS 4 total power, 2 forfeit, a battle destiny draw of at least 2, and immunity to seven battle damage. With a 0 drawn for battle destiny, the opponent still has to bring 16 power to get any battle damage through, and that's if the Arcona doesn't successfully react away (again, you'll retrieve it with Attark (V)).

The lone Kitonak at the Desert brings a total power of 6, a forfeit of 5, a battle destiny draw of at least 2, and immunity to seven battle damage. With a 0 drawn for battle destiny, the opponent still has to bring 21 power to get any battle damage through.

Even against forfeit=0 weapons, your opponent's ability to bring a minimum of 15 power into battle while all of their battle destinies get penalized is unlikely during the third turn. If capturing or auto-lossing is unlikely, these battles are a fantastic opportunity to play the Out Of Somewhere combo if you've got it.

Anything left of your opponent's characters after attrition is waiting to get beat on.

Or they can do nothing (banking Force or drawing for a bigger beatdown).

Light Side Turn Three: From this point on, you can play reactively. If your opponent doesn't want to fight, drain for at least 9 (and in the case of a second turn Tessek, drain for 16-ish). If they clear a site, prepare your beatdown for the following turn (or two if you need to draw more into hand). If counterbeats aren't an option, just throw down more sites and more scrubs. Get a Sic-Six, and while their surviving mains chase you until they get stuck at a Desert, you're still draining for a ton. A late game Force drain salvo totaling 20 is quite possible if it follows a critically-timed Oola-ing.

I could go on about the various card combos enabled between Uh-Oh! (V), NSWC&OOS;, and so forth, but you'll have more time to read than I'll have time to write.

Check out this key post-third turn combo, made possible by good elimination tracking and Control & Tunnel Vision:

Oola + Shasa Tiel + Deneb Both: They have to go entire turns drawing everything, or exhaust their hand of characters trying to outpace both Oola and Deneb Both. Following your Force drains near Deneb, your opponent won't have Force left for their grabbers (which is when you play Control against the cheesier Immediate Effects), or for their Ghhhk if you manage to find your Draw Their Fire, and lots of musicians....

Take a look at the game text of each of the aliens. There is a reason each one is in this deck (besides racial diversity): either they have extraordinary scrub power (low deploy, high power, high forfeit), they counter cards that would hurt this deck, or they manipulate the opponent's game in an unspeakable way.

And after everything I've mentioned, the Deserts are key. It's a tactically bad place for the DS to go. Real bad. If they go anyways, make them pay in the most humiliating way possible: Run away next door and drain. Insert Tatooine: Deserts between non-Tatooine: Deserts, and the Force drains will come...

...and if they do something like a second turn Darth Maul in the AC or they otherwise impair you at the AC, nix Wokling (V) to retrieve the lost TBM(V), fetch the Cantina, and play the game anew without Bo Shuda. If your opponent uses all of their Force early trying to stop the Bo Shuda'd TBM(V), the second round is going to be that much more unstoppable and painful.
