Death Star II Sealed-Deck Starter Format
Death Star II Sealed-Deck Starter Format is a Star Wars CCG sealed-deck format in which each player plays an unmodified Death Star II pre-constructed starter deck. Decipher introduced it in 2000 as one of three sanctioned formats of the Death Star II Closed Environment.[1]
- Type: sealed deck
- Defined by: Decipher (2000); Players Committee (2015, as Death Star II Sealed)
- Card pool: one Death Star II pre-constructed starter deck (60 cards) of the player's assigned side
- In use: 2000 – listed in 2015
- Also called: Endor/Death Star II Sealed-Deck Starter Format (Decipher, first name);[2] Death Star II Sealed (Players Committee)[3]
- GEMP: none. GEMP's Endor - Death Star II Sealed is a separate sealed league.
Card pool
Decipher's rules:[1]
- Decks: "60-card Light Side or Dark Side Sealed Deck."
- Product: the tournament director assigns sides at random, with equal numbers on each side, and gives each player a Death Star II pre-constructed starter deck of that side.
- Deck building: none: "Decks need not be modified since each pre-constructed starter deck already contains 60 cards." Players sit down with their first opponent and play begins under the standard Sealed Deck rules.
- Event: a 2-round (4-game) or 3-round (6-game) Swiss event with 1-hour games; a final confrontation between the top Light Side and top Dark Side player is optional but must be declared at the start.
Results counted toward the player's Sealed Deck rating and were entered with the Sealed Deck option of Decipher's tournament software.[1]
Players Committee: Death Star II Sealed
The Players Committee's Alternate Format Tournament Guide (revised September 2015) lists the format as Death Star II Sealed: each player needs one Death Star II pre-constructed deck, and the format uses the guide's general sealed rules:[3]
- Product stays unopened until each player is paired with a first opponent and assigned a side of the Force for the whole tournament.
- Both players open everything at the same time and swap, face down, all cards of the other side. Each player keeps the cards received.
- Deck building time is 10 minutes for 40-card decks and 20 minutes for 60-card decks. Between games a player may re-customize from the original stock of sealed cards.
The guide does not give a deck size for this format. Sealed games are timed at one minute per card in the deck, with a Final Confrontation between the top Light and top Dark players at 1.5 times that length.[3]
History
Decipher first published the format as one of three "Endor/Death Star II" tournament formats and then renamed all three "Death Star II Closed Environment".[4][5]
The Players Committee's Alternate Format Tournament Guide lists "Death Star II Sealed" with one Death Star II Pre-Constructed Deck per player, played under its sealed rules. The same guide describes a related way to play the Battle of Endor Environment as sealed deck: each player gets a Death Star II pre-constructed starter deck plus several Endor and Death Star II boosters to draft from, taking cards of the starter deck's side.[3] No event under the Players Committee rules is recorded on this wiki.
