Strategy

By Mike Hardy, Red 32[1]

Suddenly, the Happy Fun Ball now has a big red target painted on it...

As promised, this card is designed to boost the various Attack Run strategies that remain to be somewhat lacking in today's tournament scene. And, man, does this card deliver!

First off, this destiny 5 effect deploys on the table and is immune to Alter. That means you'll be able to open up with it with a Starting Interrupt, The Signal or Heading For The Medical Frigate. Secondly, once you blow away the Death Star you can deploy starships for free (that FREE mind you!) from your hand or Reserve deck once per turn.

This is huge! Imagine free Mon Calamari Star Cruisers to drive home your hold in space. Best of all, you even get to search your Reserve deck for these starships. This gives you amazing flexability. Got Capt. Han in hand? Go dumpster diving for the Falcon. Admiral Ackbar? How about a FREE Home One!

To add icing on the cake, if you deploy any unique starships (Home One, Millenium Falcon, Liberty, the list is pertty long, folks), you get to retrieve three Force. How demoralizing for the Dark Side would it be to watch you deploy Home One, for FREE, and then retrieve three Force. Since you're saving twelve Force, you can easily pay the retrieval tax Secret Plans forces, and Something Special Planned For Them doesn't even touch this card. Thus two of the Dark Side's strongest metagame answers to retrieval have virtually been neutralized.

Here's a tip: Although, you can start with this effect, you may not want to tip your hand too soon. Because you need to destroy the Death Star defore you reap any of the benefits this card has to offer, you'll have plenty of time to Signal or draw it later in the game. Instead start with other effects that better defend your overall strategy, or slow your opponent giving you time to bust up on the 'Happy Fun Ball'.

Great Shot, Kid! + Launching The Assault= Make the most out of the free deploy by adding to your drains with all those Star Cruisers you can have. Great Shot, Kid! + Home One + Admiral Ackbar + First Officer Thaneespi= First use Great Shot, Kid! to get Home One, deploy it free, deploy Ackbar on it for two (You can use Balanced Attack to grab Ackbar), use Ackbar to get First Officer Thaneespi and deploy her for one. Suddenly, for only THREE Force you have a power 15 capital ship with immunity to attrition of anything less that ten and forces your opponent to come up with seven or more ability before any attrition can happen! This isn't really hard to do either, folks!!! You can replace First Officer Thaneespi with Major Haash'n to neutralize Lateral Damage at the same system if desired. Toss in a Rebel Leadership and Ackbar will put the breaks on Bossk In The Bus... Or, put the hurt on Thrawn in Chimaera.
