Introduction
Post-V8 TIGIH. I'm taking it to a tournament within two weeks, so I'd really appreciate some constructive advice from a variety of people.
Decklist
'[v] Thrown Back + Shields' in the starting cards; no shields named.
Notes
- Post-V8 deck: the author names three V8 cards; The Signal (V), Thrown Back (V) and Tanus Spijek (V) are dested to Virtual Set 8 (the only printings). Obi-Wan Kenobi (V) uses the VS1 printing (VS8 also exists).
- The Signal (V) is the starting interrupt (strategy: '[v] The Signal over HFTMF'); a printed The Signal is also listed under Interrupts.
- Posted '[v] Don't Do That Again' has no original-era (V) printing; dested the printed Tatooine Effect (typed EFFECT).
- Other original-era (V): Obi-Wan Kenobi (V) (VS1); Escape Pod (V) (VS2); Wokling (V), Undercover (V) (Light), Sabotage (V) (VS3); Obi-Wan's Apparition (V), Flash Of Insight (V) x2 (VS5); Bright Hope (V) x2, Down With The Emperor! (V), Imperial Atrocity (V) x2, Civil Disorder (V) (VS6); Tawss Khaa (V), Yoda (V), Tantive IV (V), Impressive, Most Impressive (V) (VS7).
- Original-era printing corrected: Yoda (V) (Virtual Set 7) -> Yoda (V) (Virtual Set 5) (an earlier dest had linked the modern virtual card of the same name).
- Original-era printing corrected: Obi-Wan Kenobi (V) (Virtual Set 1) -> Obi-Wan Kenobi (V) (Virtual Set 8) (an earlier dest had linked the modern virtual card of the same name).
Strategy
- Strategy**
The basic premise of this deck is to deal damage to my opponent, draining, battling, and using I Feel The Conflict and Draw Their Fire to deal direct damage. There are only three V8 cards in this deck, but two of them alter the gameplay significantly.
The biggest change is [v] The Signal over HFTMF. For those of you who don’t know, it allows you to \/ or /\ 4 effects at the start of the game with ‘Jedi’ in their lore or gamtext. This allows me to start Honor, Don’t Do That Again, [v] Obi-Wan’s Apparition, and YISYW. If the deck that I am going against doesn’t use Mob Points or the combo, then I will start Lightsaber Proficiency over Don’t Do That Again and simply pull the DDTA shield later on.
The other significant V8 change is [v] Thrown Back. This card plays a major role in helping me set up my hand and also provides me with some additional activation, so I really don’t need any more locations than the Rendezvous Point and the JCC. If I am able to track cards like [v] Flash through my deck, it can help me get a decent pseudo-retrieval loop going. The most I’ve ever had to pull in a turn with this deck is about three cards, so I’ve found that I don’t get cut too much by the double-edged sword that this card can represent.
The greatest strategy change for this deck is the use of [v] Obi-Wan’s Apparition to set up the Shaw-tech (Obi-Wan goes OOP + I Can’t Believe He’s Gone). I use Balanced Attack to dig out [v] Obi-Wan as usual, but then I use him in a hit and run to make him lost, after which I use [v] Apparition to place him OOP. The beauty of this method is that I then get to use X force from then on to add X to each one of my destinies during battle, where X is my # of Jedi OOP. This is especially effective with Qui-Gon, being able to add +2 total to his lightsaber swings and then +5 to power with I Can’t Believe He’s Gone. If I so desire I can send [v] Yoda and even Qui-Gon the way of Obi-Wan as well, increasing my ability to add to destinies. One danger is that [v] Apparition is not immune to Alter, but Wise Advice shield and 2x Control combo will help keep it on the table.
- Card Choices**
[v] Tanus Spejik: This little guy is awesome. Spy, deploys for free to opponents’ non-battleground locations, draws a battle destiny by himself, deals once-per-game direct damage based on the number of opponents’ characters at the site he deploys at. I see him as a great weapon vs. Senate, Hunt Down, Walkers and BHBM, basically any deck with non-battlegrounds. Also effective if your opponent is stacking characters at a location like the audience chamber. With I Can’t Believe He’s Gone backing him up, he can decimate scrubs that my opponent left sitting around.
[v] Undercover: For use with Corran and Tanus, pulled by [v] Wokling. Mainly for blocking drains, but I can mess with my opponent’s permanent weapons too.
[v] Wokling: I ditch YISYW for this card, using it to pull either Undercover or Lightsaber Proficiency. Adds one to activation, and good for late-game or emergency retrieval (like an Altered [v] Apparition)
Choke: Cancels an alien’s gametext. Usually for someone like Jabba, Boelo, or [v] URoRRuR'R'R, now that V8 has been released. I can also use to forfeit an alien and satisfy all of my remaining attrition in battle.
Nabrun: Not many decks run IAO nowadays, so it can be used for surprise beatdowns with LSJK. Otherwise, I can just use it to get my guys from point A to point B.
WHAAAAAAAAAOOOOOW!: I’d say this card is mainly in here for the destiny, but with [v] Malakili, you can’t be too careful.
[v] Down With The Emperor: Good vs Walkers, Jabba, and other strategies that can be annoying due to their immunity to attrition.
[v] Sabotage: Kills Carbonite Chamber Console and Restraining Bolt.
- Wrap Up**
So that’s the rough strategy for the deck, with some explanations for the cards. A lot of what I do from game to game will depend on what I get in my hand and when. I’d really appreciate some advice on what cards right now are simply wastes of space, if any, because I’d really like to augment the space package with the Liberty. I also wanted to add a couple copies of Sense, but other cards seemed to take precedence. I want to keep the average destiny high, because one of the sacrifices I had to make from switching from HFTMF to [v] The Signal was losing my Colo Claw Fish. I tried to meta for V8 as I saw fit (Choke and WHAAAAAAAAAOOOOOW!) but I’d appreciate any additional comments that people may have. I’ve got a tournament in a couple weeks, so I want to be prepared for it.
Anyways, thanks for reading, God bless, and may the Force be with you.
- EDIT****
Egg: I suppose I should have expanded my strategy a bit. TIGIH nearly always runs minimal space, merely enough to establish a presence. If I get Corran and Wedge in space with Bright Hope and Tantive or Spiral, I have ~15 power and cancel two destinies. More than enough to hold a system, which is all that this deck needs to do. [v] Yoda is an awesome tool for hit and run attacks. Read his gametext carefully. He can deploy anywhere (with force icons or presence, of course). Your rating really isn't appropriate since you didn't give me any advice on how to improve my deck, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. ;) Thanks for taking the time to review!
Sithborg- Thanks for the review. I'm slightly confused, since [v] Yoda doesn't have immunity. Once I acquire Mace, he will probably go in. As far as Smoke Screen goes, I have left it out to force myself to improve my tracking skills. Once they improve, it might go back. ;) Thanks again for reviewing.
Corran- Thanks for reviewing! I've gotten the character comment from several people, so I'm planning on fitting in at least one or two more. Any recommendations on what to remove?
