Introduction
I never lost with this deck while playing against AdmiralThrawn36. Is it that good?
It focuses on force draining and drawing extra battle destiny. Please Review!
Decklist
Strategy
<Strategy>
The main strategy of this deck is to meet the opponent directly in battle and wipe him/her out by hitting characters with weapons and multiple destiny draws. I try to build up strength at one location and battle it out with my opponent. If my opponent tries to avoid me entirely, I can boost my force drains with lightsabers and lightsaber proficiency, as well as with force drain bonuses on the Cloud City locations. In battle my goal with this deck is to draw multiple destinies. I also like to hit opponents’ characters with my weapons and reduce their forfeit to zero. In the following section I explain how each card in this deck helps me and how I use it.
<Card Explanations>
Guest Quarters:
Leia deploys –2 here
Opponent’s force drain –1
2 force generation for me
Sai Torr Kal’Fas:
I can reveal a character and deploy its matching weapon with it from the reserve deck once per turn.
Rycar Ryjerd:
Twice per game I can deploy an effect or device that deploys on a character into hand
My effects and devices on characters go to the used pile when I lose the character
(this effect really helps me circulate my two copies of lightsaber proficiency)
Superficial Damage:
I can forfeit non-lightsaber weapons for forfeit = 3
This helps my characters stay in the game.
Downtown Plaza:
2 force for me
2 force for my opponent
makes for good force draining.
Carbonite Chamber:
The +1 force drain bonus is good
Core Tunnel:
The force drain +1 bonus while Lando is present is helpful
Lower Corridor:
My characters with lightsabers are power +2, and the two force it provides for my opponents are good for force draining.
Qui-Gon Jinn:
Very powerful, Immune to Attrition, provides a force icon, and opponent’s aliens are power –1
Also, Darth Maul beware…
Padme Amidala:
I use Amidala as a deploy two character with a good forfeit value
She also acts like a “Obi-Wan/ Qui-Gon’s Back”, letting them deploy from the reserve deck to the same location twice per game.
She also can’t be hit when A Jedi is present
Obi-Wan Kenobi:
A classic good card, old Obi-Wan has great forfeit, a useful game text, and is immune to attrition <5
Watch out for when he is armed with his personal lightsaber and personal journal; he can be deadly (as AdmiralThrawn36 has found out numerous times).
Obi-Wan w/ saber:
Not as good as premiere Obi-wan, but works as an expendable early-in-the-game pawn or a needed extra punch during a late-in-the-game battle
Chewbacca, Protector:
Possibly one of the best versions of Chewbacca, he is armor four and deploys –2 to the same site as Leia. He can also cancel the game text of an opponent’s character present with power <4 present once per turn.
Luke Skywalker:
Provides an extra force and is immune to attrition <3
He is good with Lightsaber Proficiency, Obi-wan’s journal, and Anakin’s lightsaber
Luke With Lightsaber:
Like Obi-Wan w/ saber, he is expendable but useful in battle, and fufills the “luke” requirement for many of my destiny adding interrupts.
Princess Leia:
Possibly one of the most well used and powerful cards in this deck, I like using Leia to lull the opponent into a false sense of security. One time defending in a battle I drew six destiny and blew the opponent away with Leia alone.
I haven’t actually ever used her ‘react’ ability, but it is also useful.
Han Solo:
Just an overall annoying guy, Han is great for cheap deploying and hitting with weapons. He can also cancel and redraw one of your destiny draws, which is good for handling the unlucky low destiny draw.
Caldera Righim:
To match up with my heavy hitters such as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, my friend usually masses about ten characters. With Righim out, though he can’t initiate a battle with ability >7 present.
I use Righim to keep the momentum my way. The person who attacks usually has the advantage, and I don’t want to give the advantage to my opponents.
Corran Horn:
Horn is simply a support character in this deck. He is a spy, which allows him to deploy without force icons, and he can defeat undercover spies by breaking their cover. I enjoy using him in conjunction with weapons levitation to steal the opponent’s weapons and use them against the opponent.
Lando Calrissian:
This suave gambler helps in supporting the heavy hitters like Qui-Gon and Leia with his added power and trusty blaster rifle.
Owen and Beru Lars:
I use this trusty pair for the power bonus they give Luke if they happen to die during the opponent’s turn and the fact that I can use them to pull Luke’s Hunting Rifle when I deploy them. (it’s a matching weapon for Owen as well as Luke)
Kal Fal’nl C’ndros:
The long legged overprotective mother isn’t quite as useful since I took the Bacta tank out of this deck, but her deploy cost of zero, high forfeit, and canceling of the opponent’s single destiny if your single destiny is higher is good.
Anakin’s Lightsaber:
Probably one of the best unique sabers in the game, it has the option of deploying on any Skywalker of ability >3. This means Luke, Leia, and, to a lesser degree, Anakin.
I typically deploy it on Leia so I can bait her alone at a site, “easy pickings”, heh-heh, to an opponent.
Qui-Gon Jinn’s Lightsaber:
The only notable thing which distinguishes this saber from others is its ability to make Qui-Gon a one person killing machine. (I speak sarcastically of course)
Obi-Wan’s Lightsaber:
Ditto with last entry, except replace the ‘Qui-Gon’ with ‘Obi-Wan’.
Obi-Wan’s Journal:
This innocent little handwritten journal is potentially one of the most powerful weapons (or devices) of this deck. I use it to cancel my opponent’s weapon destinies and make my lightsaber wielding characters immune to Disarmed.
Leia’s Blaster Rifle:
When Leia is armed with her personal rifle she is no longer a pretty princess but a pretty princess who can raze dark side characters. The lost function of the game text is a real pain to dark side players, and even if they have virtual Molator it makes characters ‘hit’ and forfeit zero.
Leia’s Sporting Blaster (virtual):
The virtual edition of this blaster is very good. It doesn’t add one to the destiny like Leia’s blaster rifle, but has a higher destiny number and fires for free. It still deploys for free and still causes the target to be lost.
Luke’s Blaster Pistol:
I put this weapon in the deck not so much for its ability to hit characters but to cancel their immunity to attrition. Here’s a possible scenario: I am at a location where I keep winning battles but the opponent’s dang Emperor is holding out with his immunity to attrition keeping him alive. Next turn I deploy Luke’s blaster on Luke and fire it at the Emperor I get a destiny of one for a total weapon destiny of two, but cancel the emperor’s immunity. My destiny draw and power is enough for my opponent to have to lose the emperor, and Luke’s blaster pistol proves its worth.
Luke’s Hunting Rifle:
This rifle isn’t very good as a weapon, but I can deploy it with either Luke or Owen and Beru Lars. It works as a good weapon to forfeit with Superficial Damage and has a good detiny of 5.
Lando’s Blaster Rifle:
Whenever Lando targets someone with this weapon, they are automatically power –2. It doesn’t seem that significant, but those 2 points of power can sometimes turn the tide of the game.
Han’s Heavy Blaster Pistol (virtual):
The virtual card set astronomically improved the already good DL-44. Although this version only can deploy on Han, it makes it up by deploying and firing for free, causing the opponent to lose one force when you hit their character, and being able to fire during the control phase for one force.
Lightsaber Proficiency:
This card is very important to my battle and force drain strategy. It adds another one to the force drain bonus caused by the lightsaber and causes your character to be power +3. Killer card. With virtual Rycar Ryjerd, I can take it into hand from my reserve deck and circulate it if the character on which it is deployed is lost.
Meditate:
If I had one or two more copies of this card, I would play them. This card deploys on your character of ability >3 and, although it is lost if you battle the same turn, is really deadly. Your character in the next battle adds three to total weapon destiny and adds one battle destiny. It is then lost, but it really does a lot of extra damage.
Traffic Control:
Being able to get rid of cards that I don’t particularly need or put high destiny cards back into my deck is nice to be able to do. This card lets me do it.
Krayt Dragon Howl:
This is my universal add-one-battle-destiny-while-your-lone-rebel-is-defending-a-battle card. Added destiny are always good.
Jedi Presence:
The presence of a Jedi in a battle is devastating to the dark side. What it does is double the power of all rebels in a battle when a Jedi is present. With a bunch of power five and six rebels like Obi-wan or Chewbacca are at the same location as Qui-Gon, a battle can become a dark side slaughter fest when I play this card.
Weapon Levitation:
Not only can you pull weapons from your used pile to your hand with this card, you can steal an opponent’s weapon with it too. My ability >3 characters can steal weapons and then can forfeit them with Superficial Damage. I need to watch out for that defensive shield, though…
A Jedi’s Resilience:
I use this card not for its duel-related text but for its ability to retrieve into hand a character armed with a lightsaber just lost. It is also destiny 6.
Clash of Sabers:
Using this card I can prevent an opponent’s character from battling and moving till the end of my next turn. Under the right circumstances this card is very deadly and aggravating to the opponent.
Skywalkers:
One of my good cards for adding destiny, it adds two destiny when Luke and Leia are in a battle together.
Don’t Get Cocky:
Ditto with Han
Gift of the Mentor:
Ditto with Obi-Wan
Rug Hug:
Ditto with Chewie. Also can add four to power in a battle where you have a rebel and an alien.
Warrior’s Courage:
I love this card when using my bait-with-Leia strategy. It adds two destiny when Leia is defending a battle alone and one destiny when any warrior is defending a battle alone. By the way, here is my bait-with-Leia strategy:
Leave Leia alone at a site armed with Anakin’s Lightsaber, Meditation, and Lightsaber Proficiency. Usually my opponent will deploy tons of characters to this site and initiate a battle. Then I interrupt with Warrior’s Courage and Krayt Dragon Howl. This usually equals one dark side character hit, power six, and 5 destiny. Ouch.
Leia’s Back (virtual):
With this card I can deploy from the reserve deck or retrieve Leia, Leia’s Blaster Rifle, and Leia’s Sporting Blaster. I can also add two to a force drain where Leia is present
Han’s Back (virtual):
With this card I can deploy from the reserve deck or retrieve Han or Han’s Heavy Blaster Pistol. I can also use it to cancel a weapon destiny draw targeting Han, causing a redraw.
Luke’s Back (virtual)
With this card I can deploy from the reserve deck or retrieve Luke of ability <6 or Luke’s blaster pistol. I can also cancel a duel, weapon, or lightsaber combat destiny targeting Luke.
Return of a Jedi (virtual)
With this card I can deploy from the reserve deck or retrieve Obi-Wan or Obi-Wan’s Lightsaber. I can also cancel a duel, weapon, or lightsaber combat destiny targeting Obi-Wan.
One thing that I need to change is add some copies of Sense and Alter. Any other recommended changes?
I don’t have this deck put together right now, but never lost with it when I played against AdmiralThrawn36. I also beat another more tournament-experienced friend’s Court of the Vile Gangster deck with it. What do you think? Is it tournament capable?
