Alex Alcalde 1999 Corellia Regional Championship (tournament report) is Alex Alcalde's director's report on the 1999 Corellia Regionals in Indianapolis, posted on the Corellian Engineering Corporation fan site.[1] The site's copy notes that it was taken from Decipher's web site: Decipher ran it in its NewsFlash as "Corellia Regional: Nowhere To Drain" on 27 September 1999.[2] It gives the full 49-player standings, the event statistics and both games of the final, in which Chad McCory beat Joe Mornout.

Discrepancies[edit]
- The site's copy says the event "was held this Saturday"; Decipher's NewsFlash is dated Monday 27 September 1999, which would make it 25 September. Two reports of a tournament at the Danger Room in Anderson, Indiana, dated 25 September 1999, already call McCory the Corellia regional winner, so this wiki gives the date as September 1999. See Talk:1999 Corellia Regionals.

Well, as some of you have heard the Corellian Regional Championship was held this Saturday in Indianapolis. This report is from the point of view of one of the directors and does not include any games except for the final confrontation.
I arrived at around 8:45AM and much to my surprise there were already a good number of players already assembled in the Holiday Inn's ballroom to compete. Notables includes Joe Alread, Justin Staufer, Kenny Roberts and a good portion of the Lafayette regulars.
After a slow start and getting all the deck lists in, the Regional Championship kicked off at 10:30 (only 30 mins behind schedule) as John Kaufeld (Gold 49) hit the pair button on the Tourny Software. 49 participants made the trek into Indianapolis, a slightly lower turnout then expected considering that over 118 qualified for the event. Players did represent all 5 states from the Corellia region, with Michael Frye being the only participant from Wisconsin to make the grueling trip.
Initial pairings demonstrated that this would be a real funky Regional. After round one standings showed Indy native Daniel Spaid in first followed closly by Eric Olson and Joe Alread. With a break for lunch midway through the competators got a chance to breath and contemplate their next couple games.
With the Tourny going into the third round I was predicting a cutoff for 8th spot to be about 8 (30) As there were only 3 unfeateds at this point in time:
Joe Alread 8 (89) Libertyville Il
Chad McCory 8 (87) Carmel, In
Jared Lockwood 8 (81) Churubusco, In
The highest 3-1 was:
Frank Lamantia 6 (86) Miamisburg, Oh (AKA infamous Webmaster)
With both Chad and Jared winning, and playing opposite sides it set up for seeing only 1 undefeated and an automatic placing into the Final Duel. Chad managed to squeeze in a win by 9 over Jared and awaited to see who would be his competion. Squeezing into second was Lafayette native Joe Mornout. For some of you this name may seem familiar. Joe made it to the GenCon final only to finish second in a 3 game final! Examine my notes following the standings, then the comentary on the final duel.
Final Standings after 3 rounds of play were:
1. Chad McCory 12 (115) Carmel, In
2. Joe Mornout 10 (113) Lafayette, In
3. Jared Lockwood 10 (96) Churubusco, In

Final Duel:
Game One
LS: Chad McCory
DS: Joe Mornout
Joe is playing a CCT/Manipulator Deck and faces off against Chad's Hidden Base deck. This game had already been played during the three rounds, and Chad was a little preocupied since Joe knew what his Hidden Base was. The game was pretty much even as Joe kept Chad off balance with Scanning Crews and Monnoks. While Joe was draining on the ground, Chad eventually flipped his Objective and started wittling Joe down. The turning point in the game was when Joe left M. Onith alone at the CC:Interogation Room, Chad responded with Leia w/Shooter. And quickly went hunting for Drazin at the CC: Security Tower to Free Wedge. A turn later Drazin & Zuckass lay dead, Wedge was freed and paling around with Twass. The final nail in Joe's coffin though was EPP Luke and Chewie ganking a lone Bane at the Defensive Perimiter. Final Result Chad by 16.
Game Two
DS: Chad McCory
LS: Joe Mornout
Chad starts with the Death Star and pulls Bad Feeling Have I, in what looks to be a pure beatdown deck. Joe on the other hand plays a deck that Ive seen on a couple occasions and might be localized to Indiana. He starts with Hidden Base and deploys Dagobah deploying all its sites for force generation. Early on there is alot of drawing and a well timed Used Grimtaash seems to give Joe the Early advantage. Even with the Endor:Forest Clearing out neither player deploys anything and each has a MASSIVE amount of Active force. Eventually Chad deploys to the Death Star: Bossk in Bus, Death Star Assualt Squadron, Dreadnaught, Vader, DS-61-2 along with Presence of the Force, which is quikly canceled with Clash of Sabers. A turn later, after much talk about Chad's power Joe deploys Tantive 4, EPP Luke, EPP Leia, EPP Han. Battles, plays I Have A Very Bad Feeling About This (triples battle damage), Skywalkers and Don't Get Cocky. Joe draws a sick amount of destinies that total 27. Chad lost everything from the site to cover it, while Joe simply looses EPP Luke. Next turn, Chad plays Come Here You Big Coward, so much for that drain. Chad starts stocking up on Endor. EPP Obi and then EPP Luke come down only to get Rebel Barriered. Joe doesn't battle. EPP Fett comes down only to add to Vader & Stick with Ozzel and Igar on a Blizzard Walker. At this point Chad plays You Are Beaten on Luke and in response Joe plays Glancing Blow. From this point onward its purly mathematical that Joe can not win as he has less then 24 force and nowhere to drain. Joe draws up, handing Chad the victory and a trip to the Worlds.
Many thanks to all those that participated, epecially John Kaufeld (Gold 49) and Roger McEldowney (Gold 108) for being my partners in crime, in helping run the regional.
