- Description: This is a modified version of Pistones Scum, the most awesome DS deck I've played in a long while.
Strategy
First of all I'd like to give huge props to Michael Pistone and Brandon Schele for creating and posting this deck, and to my brother for convincing me that Bad Feeling Have I was a must. It really made a difference.
This was the deck I went 3-0 with at the Norwegian Nationals recently, earning me an overall 6-0 and thus giving me this years title :)
Short description of my 3 matches:
Round 1
Watch Your Step
I haven't played against WYS in a long while, and didn't really know what to expect from this version. He started with Podracing (!) and almost exclusively stuck to space. I set up my drains on the ground + Occupation, and gave him a hard time in space with Maul in Ship + Cruiser. I made one very big mistake in this game; I forgot to play Secret Plans, and only realised this after I had deployed my 4th shield. That was a stupid mistake I paid for. 5 minutes before time was called, it looked like he was going to pull off a timed win due to his insane retrieval (I think it was 21 over 2 turns). But I managed to trap a couple of his characters at the cantina and give him a Jabba beatdown right after 60 minutes had passed, earning me a full win.
GOOD: He gave he the Cantina, which is a great drain site combined with Occupation. This was also the location where his Lando With Blaster, Ralltir Freighter Captain and Mirax (?) had the late-game unfortunate encounter with a couple of bad dudes.
BAD: I should have my head examined for forgetting to use Secret Plans.
WEIRD: I only had two cards in my Lost Pile when I won the game, and that were the same two cards I ditched with Jabba in the final battle.
1-0 (+25)
Round 2
You Can Either Profit By This...
Hm, excellent match-up in my book if I only can try not to make mistakes. What was my mistake? Well, you have probably already guessed it... I forgot to deploy two aliens at the AC with his objective! I was so caught up in the fact that this should have been close to an auto-win that I forgot why...
So Han was released, but ended up in the idle hands of IG-88, captured again. He had a lot of bad luck when it came to pulling characters, and the only real problem he managed to give me was a fully operational Ben Kenobi, later killed by Boba Fett, IG-88 and Rodian (v).
GOOD:Bad luck on his part made up for my silly mistakes.
BAD: Forgetting to deploy my two aliens at the start could/should have been game-breaking.
WEIRD: Even though this is an awesome deck, I'm beginning to have second thoughs about bringing it. The obvious problem is my lack of routine with it.
2-0 (+21)
Round 3
Coruscant Mains
For my last DS game I was paired against my brother, the only person I had played against beforehand with this deck. He had lost all 5 matches in playtesting, so my confidence was good.
But this turned out to be an extremely even match, mostly due to his intelligent use of his SAC. Even though we fought serveral battles at JP I NEVER got to use Hutt Bounty (v).
He also, somehow, managed to come in to the AC very early and knock off Ephant Mon and Gailid and then fortifying T: JP with a fully armed and operational LSJK. Supported by Fallen Portal, Boushh (at AC, Sense-protected from capture), SAC, Corran Horn (getting rid of Arica) and Insurrection preventing Elis I had a really hard time with this game. It all came down to a good old drain race at adjacent sites, where Tatooine Occupation won me the game by 5 Force.
GOOD: This was a match-up I have never lost, although this LS is pretty good.
BAD: LSJK made my life miserable all game long. A strategic Fallen portal made my only 100% attempt to kill him void.
WEIRD: I've never been so screwed by SAC in any game, ever. And I played out BOTH shields...
3-0 (+5)
Conlusion from these games:
3-0 (+51)
This deck is absolutely awesome, both on the ground and in space. Since people up here almost always use Insurrection & AH for their LS decks I had a hard time setting up any insane beats with Jabba/Elis, but managed to pull it off in the one game were it really counted (Round 1).
It is first after this tournament I really have begun to appreciate J'Quille (v) and Tanus Spijek (v) for what they're worth :D
Until next time... May the Force Be With You.
