Strategy
OOPS!
There is a blank spot in the decklist under Purple & Friends. Its supposed to be the system marker. I put it in brackets by accident, so the HTML code ignored it. Sorry!
END OOPS
This deck won 1st place at the Atlanta DPCs classic event. It was used by Matt Old Skooler Lush. MAJOR props, bud. Thanks much.
HOW TO PLAY:
Against Hunt Down that doesnt start No Escape, start YISYW instead of SAC protection, then lose it for Honor early on. For every other deck, start WA/DODN.
Turn 1: Take before picture of opponents face. Get Generals before activating. HB gets Endor (1). Deploy all xwings from hand to rend point for free. Get Hoth Docking Bay. Drop both generals to Hoth Docking Bay (all 5 ds decks so far give me the 2 icons needed). Get War Room with Rieekan. Move all xwings to endor for free. Draw it all.
Turn 2: Dodonna gets Romas Brokenboy Nevander, drain at Endor. Drop all xwings to rend point. HB gets a system (2). Deploy Brokenboy to war room. Brokenboy gets another system (3). General Rieekan gets Corridor. Move xwings around, at least 2 per system spread evenly. Move Rieekan to Corridor. Draw it all. 95% of the time, you will have A New Secret Base, The Signal, or EBO by now.
Turn 3: Brokenboy breaks shield rules, Rieekan gets 1st Marker. HB gets a system (4). Brokenboy gets a system (5). Deploy A New Secret Base. ANSB gets a system (6). Free xwings, free movement to Endor & Tatooine. You should be well spread out by now.
Turn 4: Brokenboy gets system 7. HB gets system 8. ANSB gets system 9. Flip. Rieekan gets EBO. You should have good use of undercover spies & Rebel Fleet, by now anyway. Spread to 1 xwing per system (as best as possible. Get to high drain systems first, obviously).
Turn 5: Cancel all their drains. Drain 5 at Coruscant (0+5=5), 3 @ Tibrin (5+3=8), 4 @ Kiffex (8+4=12), 3 @ Aquaris (12+3=15), 3 @ Hoth (15+3=18), 3 @ Kashyyyk (18+3=21), 3 @ Chandrila (21+3=24), 3 @ Endor (24+3=27), 5 @ Kessel (27+5=32). Take after picture of opponents face. Shake hands.
This is assuming you get the most horrid draw ever, too. With standard-decent draws, this deck generally is ready to drain on turn 3-4. Hyper Escapes, Incom, Out Of Nowheres, Organized Attacks, EBO, Houjixes, Barrier, Power Pivot, and 2 copies of Alternatives To Fighting make sure you dont get hurt in space EVER.
Heres why its broken: Romas Brokenboy Nevander (v) says may use 1 Force to suspend Hoth Energy Shield Rules until the start of your next turn. The Hoth Energy Shield Rules state that whenever you are about to deploy the Main Power Generators (even as your starting location), you must check to see if marker 4, 5, 6, or 7 is on table. If not, you must immediately deploy your 4th marker site the North Ridge from hand or Reserve Deck, reshuffling as necessary (if you are unable to deploy the North Ridge, you may not deploy the Main Power Generators). You need only deploy the 4th marker when DEPLOYING the 1st marker. This rule is suspended, so you dont need to deploy the 4th marker. When the rule comes back, you are not in the process of deploying the 1st marker, nor are you about to deploy the Main Power Generators. Therefore, you do not need to deploy the 4th marker. The rule (when no longer suspended) also states very specifically that The energy shield will extend at least as far as the 3rd marker, so no spies are allowed to deploy. Your opponent must deploy his own 4th marker (or beyond) to get inside. Even better is the fact that this leaves you with only 4 Hoth sites; even if your opponent somehow gets under, he still cant cancel EBO because he will never occupy the 5. (I know just wait until you see the Imperial Occupation matchup below before you start whining about that last statement.)
UPDATED RULING: This ruling has been made by Jim Coleson at the Atlanta DPC. Romas Brokenboy Nevander DOES INDEED work as described in this deck. This is an important & official ruling, people. Pay attention!
UPDATES TO ORIGINAL: A select few of you have already seen this, and there are substantial changes from the original. For starters, it was converted from an open deck to a Classic deck because Watto just stomps it into the ground and breaks it into tiny little pieces before ripping its heart out and eating it for lunch, waiting for it to come out again, and flushing it down the toilet to rot in the sewers where nothing good can possibly come into contact with it ever again and causing major phsycological pain to the deck, the deckmaker, and the player. It does well against everything else. The original version also had 2 copies of ICBW, but Lush thinks its too risky to play ICBW without Its Worse protection. We added 2 copies of Its A Hit, but the card spaces are better suited to a 3rd copy of Organized Attack and 3 copies of Control & Tunnel Vision. Why? Because youre activating 3 billion force each turn, and everything you need to pull out of the deck will be in the Force pile. Go get your stuff. These cards make the deck even faster. I usually get drains going by turn 4. With the 3 C&TV, I get it going turn 3. Amazing stuff. Alternatives To Fighting also took the card slots from Rebel Barrier because there are a million ways to cancel Barrier, but Alternatives not only doesnt have a canceller, it effectively blocks everyone from battling instead of just 1. Totally tech. Luke is for BHBM. On to the strategy. (If something doesnt make sense or references cards no longer in the deck, Im sorry! I think Ive updated everything, but its possible I missed something somewhere.)
This deck plays the exact same against nearly every single deck, simply because each game only lasts 4-5 turns. There are a couple of things to watch out for, though.
TIES: This is the reason Incom exists. Spread with 2 wings at a system instead of 1. You will have more space than they will, and the drains will get through. You have power +3 from EBO, +2 from Incom (assuming 2 wings), +2 from Organized Attack, a good guess that youll get the first shot to make sure you dont lose to a tie cannon (hyper escape, barrier, etc.), an extra destiny from Out Of Nowhere, and a backup plan with Houjix. If you drain 18 while they retrieve 1, youll win. It doesnt matter how much damage theyre doing to you at that point. Daunting, a longer game, but you will win.
DARK DEAL: Dont cancel occupation or Dark Deal let them have it. Theyll give you a loss of 12, youll return with 20. And on the bright side, you can cancel their drains after 4 turns. Spies and Rebel Fleet are your best friends.
IMPERIAL OCCUPATION (v): Give me a break. This one can be tougher than normal, but HB will beat this deck every day of the week anyway, even without EBO. Which is good, because it will get cancelled this game. Lose the generals to drains and such, and flip with 6-7 big systems (Kessel, Kiffex, Coruscant, Endor, Kashyyyk are best options). Cancel drains with the flipped objective, Power Pivot & OON their space, and keep your ships alive with Organized Attack. Undercover spies will get trampled, but use them anyway. Not too tough, actually.
SPIES: The biggest (only) weakness of the deck is against early spies. If your opponent can get a spy to Hoth before you get the shield going, they can kill Brokenboy before he pushes his magic button. If that happens, stack the Generals together for ability 4 and try to also use Luke & Boushh to knock them away, use Tibrins gametext to get Brokenboy back, and continue. This usually sets EBO back 2-3 turns, but HB is only back 1 turn (generally) and the flip is still ready. Remember that HB wins the game EBO is an added (READ: unnecessary) feature to exponentially speed up the process. Even in this case, your opponent needs to get that spy in his hand in the first 3 turns anyway or hes screwed. Usually not too much to worry about here.
RALOPS: Damian Loback used a RalOps against this deck at the Atlanta DPC. It was a tough game, but HB turned out the win. Imperial Decree went into effect, and spreading the x-wings to every system (to prevent him from controlling 2 systems) turned out to be the game winner. Alternatives To Fighting made sure the xwings stayed in front of those ships and kept him from controlling. This RalOps deck stomped on everything else that came across its path, so Im told. This deck beat it.
Any comments, questions, or whatever are welcome! Im starting a thread on the buzzboards (called Its Like USA Nuking Mexico) about this deck, so please visit there for extended suggestions and commentary. Play this deck while you can because you KNOW Brokenboy is in for an errata. Enjoy!
