The 2014 Virtual Card Pool Reset is the Players Committee decision titled Reset of Standard Format — a reset of the SWCCG virtual card pool rather than a cleanup / mass errata. Primary PC announce: Reset of Standard Format (live; Wayback, 6 Mar 2017), byline July 25th, 2014 (Advocate Council / darkjediknight11).[1] Follow-up legal lists: PDF of Reset List Posted — Virtual Set 0 and Virtual Set 1 Preview, byline September 25th, 2014.[2]

This is a fan encyclopedia summary of those sourced posts. It does not invent card lists, exact Worlds mini-set titles, or Decipher product changes.

Why reset (vs cleanup)

The Advocates weighed a cleanup (surgical errata / scrap of problem cards) against a complete reset (trim virtual cards to a small base set). They unanimously chose reset, citing among other points: one PDF of legal V text (simpler than remembering mass errata), past problems with mass-errata style changes, volunteer/design opportunity with a smaller pool, realism for casual time budgets, and a more comprehensive fix than a “band-aid.”[1]

Base set and text rule

  • Base set intended roughly 75 cards per side.[1]
  • Primary rule for the base set: virtual cards that can go in a reserve deck do not change game text (“If you know a card now, you will know the card post-Reset”).[1]
  • September 25 follow-up: cards in Virtual Set 0 (Base Set) were unchanged from pre-reset versions except some tweaked Defensive Shields; Virtual Set 1 Preview cards had various minor tweaks.[2]

Formats: Standard and Legacy

  • New Standard = post-reset Virtual cards (new graphical V-set icon planned; existing slips still usable for cards that remained legal).[1]
  • New Legacy format = all pre-Reset Virtual cards in a Master Legacy PDF (fixed pool unless later D&D support for Legacy balance).[1][2]
  • VS0 + VS1 Preview PDFs were legal immediately for Standard sanctioned play (Sep 25 post).[2]
  • See also Formats.

What was not changed

  • No plans to touch Decipher cards or Decipher rules at that time.[1]
  • No set rotation after Reset (survey-driven).[1]

Packaging: blocks → V0 then V1

Advocates planned to revert to a single set format instead of blocks: base set V0, then starting over at V1.[1] On this wiki those hubs are Virtual Set 0 and Virtual Set 1 (Current Virtual / post-Reset).

9.2 not in then-current form

The same July 25 announce stated that VB/V-set 9.2 will not be released in its current form, with a plan for a mini ~12-card Worlds set instead, and intern work remolded later.[1] That sentence is about 9.2, not about Original-era Virtual Set 19: Galaxy at War. VB 9.1 (Republic at War) had already shipped 10 January 2014. Details and open gaps: Cancelled Virtual Sets.

Timeline notes (sourced)

  • July 25, 2014 — PC Reset of Standard Format byline (prefer over secondary dates).[1]
  • Preliminary base list / public-by-Aug-1 and beta at Worlds Toronto + European Championship were stated as plans in that announce (not re-verified here as separate live pages).[1]
  • September 25, 2014 — VS0 + VS1 Preview PDFs posted; immediately legal for Standard.[2]

Secondary: Category One date note

Category One Games summarized the Reset and wrote that the PC announced on July 14 (year implied 2014 from context), with Set 0 ~150 cards (75/side) at then-current text, Set 1 powered-down key cards, and Legacy keeping then-current Vs.[3] Prefer the official PC byline July 25th, 2014 and the live / Wayback PC URLs above. The C1G “July 14” figure is noted only as a secondary discrepancy.

Contrast with Decipher cancellations

Cancelled Expansions covers Decipher products that never shipped. The Reset is a Players Committee virtual pool change, not a Decipher expansion cancellation. Unreleased Virtual product notes (Galaxy at War; 9.2 wording): Cancelled Virtual Sets.
