Title: R2-D2 (Artoo-Detoo)
Lore:
A small-bodied droid brimming with energy, loyal to his master and brave. A Rebel spy who is strong in adversity. Though 3PO derided him as a “cold-hearted philosopher,” his personality is rather the opposite. He is somewhat restless and sometimes acts unexpectedly.
Card text:
Adds +2 to the power, maneuver and hyperspeed of the starfighter he is aboard (+3 if Red 5). When he is at a place with an access link and the opponent draws destiny, activate 1 Force if it is 1–3. If it is 4–6, draw the top card of the Reserve Deck and add it to your hand.
Comparison with the English printing
The Japanese lore says that 3PO derided R2-D2 as a “cold-hearted philosopher”; the English face instead calls R2-D2 the “Incorrigible counterpart of a mindless philosopher.” The Japanese game text uses アクセス・リンク (access link) for the English Scomp link and states the two results directly, without words corresponding to the English “you may.” It expressly adds the drawn Reserve Deck card to the hand. The printed numerical statistics match the inspected English face. Neither inspected face prints a Nav Computer symbol; a later rule-derived capability must not be presented as a printed icon.[2] The comparison uses the original English card face.
Statistics
The printed values and symbols are shown above. The face prints one Droid symbol and the subtype 操縦ドロイド (astromech droid). It has no printed ability number and no printed Nav Computer, Pilot or Warrior symbol. Its lore identifies a Rebel spy.[2]
Base landspeed is 1 under the character movement rule; this is a rule-derived value, not a printed statistic.[3]
The 1998 Glossary states that astromech droids provide nav computers. This is a rule-derived capability, separate from the absence of a printed Nav Computer symbol on this face.[4] The same Glossary gives droids no ability and gives droids without armor a defense value of zero.[5]
