Jabba's Palace Sealed Deck is a Star Wars CCG sealed-deck format in which each player opens one Jabba's Palace Sealed Deck box. Decipher first ran it at DecipherCon 2000 in October 2000, before the product reached stores, and gave it its own ability rule in November 2000.[1][2][3]

  • Type: sealed deck
  • Defined by: Decipher (2000)
  • Card pool: one Jabba's Palace Sealed Deck box per player (20 premium cards and six Jabba's Palace packs); 40-card decks
  • In use: 2000 –
  • Also called: JPSD (Decipher);[3] Jabba's Palace Sealed Deck Format (Decipher, 2001);[4] Jabba's Palace Sealed (play.swccg.com); JP Sealed (Players Committee GEMP)[5][6]
  • GEMP: "Jabba's Palace Sealed" on play.swccg.com and "JP Sealed" on the Players Committee server, both jp_sealed[5][6]

Card pool

"Each player will receive one Jabba's Palace Sealed Deck box to wage a battle on Tatooine."[1] At the first event the box held "twenty exclusive premium cards and six Jabba's Palace expansion packs", players built 40-card decks, and games had a 40-minute limit.[2] The Light Side premiums were ten cards, among them the objective Agents In The Court / No Love For The Empire and Lando With Vibro-Ax.[7]

Ability rule

On 10 November 2000 Decipher added a rule for this format only:[3]

"Any character of ability 1 who has an unmodified (printed on the card) deploy number of 3 or greater is considered, for all purposes, to be of ability 2. (This rule applies to both Dark Side and Light Side characters)"

Decipher called it "an officially sanctioned tournament rule for the JPSD Sealed Deck tournament environment", meant "to balance gameplay within the JPSD environment". It "does not apply to tournaments using Standard Constructed Deck rules, or to any other Closed Environment or Sealed Deck environment." Tournament directors were to use it from the weekend of 10 November 2000.[3] Decipher's 2001 tournament resources linked the same notice as the "Jabba's Palace Sealed Deck Format".[4]

GEMP

Both GEMP servers define jp_sealed with a 40-card deck size and a jpSealedRule setting.[5][6] On play.swccg.com the format, named Jabba's Palace Sealed, uses the same set list as Open and is marked as not a game hall format.[5][8][9] GEMP's sealed league type Jabba's Palace Sealed uses this format.[10] The GEMP format definitions list these special rules:[5][11]

  • Once per game, may ▼ a unique battleground not already on table.
  • Any character of ability 1 who has a printed deploy number of 3 or greater is considered, for all purposes, to be ability 2.

History

DecipherCon 2000 scheduled five Jabba's Palace Sealed Deck events, all sanctioned, four games, entry $20: Thursday 5 October at noon (#SW211) and 9 p.m. (#SW214), Friday 6 October at 6 p.m. (#SW223), and Saturday 7 October at 10 a.m. (#SW231) and 6 p.m. (#SW234). "Here's your chance to play with these cards weeks before your friend's back home will get a chance to play with them."[1][12]

Francis K. Lalumiere reported the first event, on the morning of 5 October 2000: 24 players in a side hall while Day 1 of the World Championship ran in the main hall. The Light Side dominated; Koen Meijssen (8, +69) beat Martin Akesson (6, +17) by 3 Force in the final confrontation. Jeff Weitkamp (Gold 40) was tournament director.[2]

The Players Committee's Alternate Format Tournament Guide has a draft version, "JPOTSD Booster Draft": one Jabba's Palace Official Tournament Sealed Deck per player, the same ability rule, the premium packs opened as in sealed play and only the booster packs drafted. Its "Secret Squirrel" format also uses this product.[13]
