The DecipherCon 1999 Team Event was a Star Wars CCG team side event at DecipherCon 1999 (11–14 November 1999, Virginia Beach, Virginia). It is separate from the 1999 Decipher World Championship held at the same convention. A team of four won it: Martin Akesson, Paul Todd Feldman, Koen Meijssen and Yannick Lapointe.[1][2][3]

Results

Place Player Dark Light
1 (team) Martin Akesson — —
1 (team) Paul Todd Feldman Carbon Chamber Testing (Drazin) Harvest
1 (team) Koen Meijssen — —
1 (team) Yannick Lapointe — —

Feldman published both decks on Torch Industries: the Drazin deck as his "Decipher Con Team Play Winning Deck"[2], and Harvest under the heading "Regional Qualifier/DecipherCon Team Winning Deck". On Harvest he wrote:[3]

"A version of this deck won me the Regional and the Team Event at Deciphercon."

The Drazin deck has Endor cards and no Death Star II cards, and Torch Industries first shows it on 3 March 2000, which places the event at DecipherCon 1999.

Team

In a 2025 interview Feldman showed a 1999 Decipher Champ plaque from the team event. He said the team was four players and that he was the only American on it.[5]

Akesson's report gives the team name as "non americans +1" and the roster history. He, Lapointe (Canada) and Meijssen (the Netherlands) were set from the start. Bastian Winkelhaus (Germany) was first named for the fourth seat, then Martin Falke (Germany). Winkelhaus moved to another team and Falke joined the other Germans in team Sebulba, so Feldman joined as the "+1". Akesson added: "We happened to win that team event, and we got the coolest trophies!"[6]

On how the event ran, he said teams played against other teams, with cumulative points and differential, and that his last game decided the win:[5]

"I think the way they ran it is we had cumulative points as our win records and our differential as a team. ... We were just we had individual games but what we didn't play each other because we're on the we played other teams. ... I remember I had to win my game for us to win it"

Photographs

Decipher's Sunday photo album shows three of the four winners together, with Feldman missing from the shot.[7] The same album has a separate photo of Feldman.[8]

The team photo survives only as a small thumbnail:
