Come With Me (PC Errata) — PC AR 2023 Appendix A

Come With Me — bare/default

Come With Me (Original) is a Dark Effect from A New Hope.

Card Text

Use 1 Force to attempt to eliminate a starfighter's permanent pilot. Draw destiny. If destiny > 2, deploy on starfighter to remove permanent pilot. May now add 1 pilot. Must have pilot aboard to use power, maneuver or hyperspeed. (Immune to Alter.)

Lore

Pilots are often reassigned at the last minute for a variety of tactical reasons. Darth Vader ordered DS-61-2 and DS-61-3 to accompany him to the Battle of Yavin.

Notes

Strategy

By Brian Monday (Gold 42)[1]

This often overlooked card can really give the Light Side fits. With the increased use of starships, thanks to cards like Haven and Leia Of Alderaan, this card can be used to help thwart your opponent's strategy. Best of all, it's immune to Alter, so there's no chance of your opponent cancelling it!

The most obvious use is against the Rebel Leader cards. A destiny draw of 3 or higher will knock out any starfighter's permanent pilot, and Red Leader In Red 1 or Gold Leader In Gold 1 are the most annoying permanent pilots in the game for the Dark Side. Getting rid of the automatic destiny draw from those cards can often turn the tides of a battle to the Dark Side's favor, since the Haven deck normally utilizes generic starfighters spread out to drain, with the Rebel Leader cards as the heavy support.

A more subtle use is to use Come With Me on one of your own starfighters to add a better pilot aboard. For example, you could deploy the Obsidians, then use Come With Me on Obsidian 8, and replace it's permanent pilot with one of the myriad ability 2 pilots available to keep a destiny draw together.

Combos:

Come With Me + R2-Q2 + The Dark Path + Death Star Assault Squadron + Grand Moff Tarkin: Use R2-Q2 and The Dark Path to set up a 3+ destiny, then knock out DS-61-2 or DS-61-3 and replace him with Tarkin to get the Vader/Tarkin destiny cancelling ability.

Come With Me + R2-Q2 + The Dark Path + Zuckuss or Darth Vader: Knock out any Dark Side starfighter's permanent pilot and replace it with an ability 4+ pilot, guaranteeing a destiny draw.

Come With Me + Rebel Leader ships: Get rid of those pesky, destiny-drawing permanent pilots.

Rulings

  • If this card removes a unique permanent pilot, that persona's uniqueness still applies (e.g. if played on Gold Leader In Gold 1, the character Dutch still cannot be deployed).[2]
  • An unpiloted starship cannot use its game text (e.g. Lando In Millennium Falcon cannot use the immune to attrition < 5 text), but once the starship is piloted again, the starship's game text becomes usable again (except text that specifically says it comes from the removed permanent pilot).
