Counter Assault is a Dark Interrupt (Lost Interrupt) from Premiere Limited.

Card Text

Use 1 Force to cancel a Force drain at one location. Draw one destiny for each character, starship and vehicle the opponent has present. Compare your destiny total to opponent's power total. Player with lowest total loses Force equal to the difference.

Lore

Imperial stormtroopers use tactical training to regroup and mount a surprise counterattack, such as when they halted Han Solo's wild pursuit.

Strategy

By Brian Kallenbach[1]

Counter Assault can be one of the more powerful cards in the game, if used correctly. The ability to cancel a Force drain is terrific in any circumstance, and the added ability to nail your opponent for additional Force loss makes this card even better. However, there are several factors that make this card a risky proposition. First, there is a possibility that your opponent will match or beat your total, potentially increasing the damage. Also, the Light Side tends to have a higher destiny curve than the Dark Side does. Finally, due to the present rulings, Counter Assaulting in space is a risky proposition at best.

Combos:

Counter Assault + Luke? Luuuuke! -- The power reduction on this card can make it easier to have a successful Counter Assault, especially if the Utinni Effect is targeting Luke.

Counter Assault + Lateral Damage -- Again, dropping a large starship from 6 or greater power to zero helps out Counter Assault tremendously, especially if you hit the Falcon with Lateral Damage. Be careful about Corellian Corvettes, though, their high power can make using Counter Assault riskier than under most circumstances.

Rulings

  • When this interrupt begins its result, the total power and the number of destiny draws are 'locked in' and will not change.[2]
  • Do not draw destinies for characters inside starships or enclosed vehicles.
  • This is not a 'battle' and cards may not be forfeited.
