A Step Backward is a Light Interrupt (Lost Interrupt) from Tatooine.
Card Text
Place the top race destiny of all Podracers in owner's Used Pile. OR Place 3 cards from hand (random choice) into your Lost Pile to take any one character from your Lost Pile into hand.
Lore
The clashing of Podracers slowed the pace of the race as Anakin and Sebulba approached the finish line.
Strategy
This handy little Interrupt is great for both Podracer decks and your traditional Mains & Toys deck. And, with a great destiny of 5, it shouldn't be hard to fit in either deck type.
For its first function, A Step Backward takes both Podracers a step... well... backward. Placing all Podracers' top race destinies into their owners' Used Piles may seem like a lose-lose situation, but race destinies are like flame-broiled walruses: just one can do you in. If Sebulba's just drawn a seven (modified to a ten!) and Anakin's stuck with a three or a four, who's going to suffer the most from A Step Backward? You can also use multiple copies of this handy card to prolong a race... a nice way to take maximum advantage of an opponent's "damaged" Podracer, wouldn't you say?
A Step Backward's second function is risky, but sometimes, the biggest risks have the best payoffs. Discard A Step Backward and three random cards from your hand, and in exchange, you get to retrieve any character from your Lost Pile – into your hand! It's like Premiere's "Back" cards on steroids! Use it as a last resort to save vital characters, like Han Solo for Profit decks, or even utilty characters, like Caldera Righim.
A Step Backward? If it was up to me, I'd call this one a step forward!
A long race plus a "damaged" podracer equals bad news for Sebulba.
Since Qui-Gon doesn't have a "back" card, use A Step Backward to return him to action if your Bacta Tank's full.
