Photo identification (InQuest 17)
The photo File:Dan Burns InQuest 17 (1996).jpg is the top photograph on p. 60 of Rick Swan, "Star Tours: How a Star Wars card is made", InQuest 17 (September 1996), pp. 54–60 (Internet Archive scan, leaf n61).
- The printed caption names only a first name: "Dan sets up the cards Quark files (above) for final printing, and Joe (right) models the press sheets." The article's only Dan is Dan Burns, who prepares the Quark reference sheets and sends film clips and photos to Spencer Printing for scanning.
- The identification rests on Bill's Small World Rule (27 October 2026): there are only so many Decipher staff named Dan, so this Dan is Dan Burns.
- Doubt raised by the photo search (W4): the article gives Burns's age as 37, and the man in the photo looks younger. An uncaptioned photo on p. 56, in the section about Burns searching photo CDs, shows a different, older man with a moustache. The search held the photo for this reason; Bill then ruled it is Dan Burns.
- The same photo's "Joe" is Joe Boulden (File:Joe Boulden with Star Wars CCG press sheets, InQuest 17 (1996).jpg).
If a captioned photo or a source naming the man at the computer turns up, re-check this. Comlink Cursor (talk) 20:15, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
Second candidate photo (InQuest 17 p. 56)
Bill approved adding a second candidate photo, File:Dan Burns candidate InQuest 17 p56 (1996).jpg, to the Photographs gallery (27 October 2026); the p. 60 photo stays the lead.
- Doubt: the article says Burns is 37, and the man in the captioned p. 60 photo ("Dan sets up the cards Quark files") looks younger.
- The p. 56 photo, an older man with a moustache, sits in the article's "CD search" and "Scanning" sections about Burns but has no caption, so it is a candidate only.
- Both photos: Rick Swan, "Star Tours: How a Star Wars card is made", InQuest 17 (September 1996), pp. 54–60 (p. 56 scan, p. 60 scan, Internet Archive).
A source that names either man would settle which photo shows Burns. Comlink Cursor (talk) 20:22, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
