Talk:2001 Decipher World Championship

Style pass (2026-10-15)

3rd/4th place: DeckTech's FreedomCon page (ref fc-home) gives Hayes Hunter 3rd and Brian Hunter 4th; allstarz97's 2020 forum post (p1300380) recalls them the other way round. The table keeps DeckTech's order and cites both.

Cut from the body: "Full published 2001 constructed lists remain sparse; this hub records the champion, runner-up, site, format, and the cancellation." Only Scott Lingrell's Light deck is on the page.
Andy McClure, Kevin Shannon and Brad Reinhold lost in the quarterfinals (rhendon, p1300395), as did Scott Lingrell (listed 5–8); they are not yet rows in the Results table.
Results Dark/Light cells were "—"; now blank pending decklists.

Kept canonical 2001 Decipher World Championship to match Championships 1996–2000, player results tables, and decklist naming. Minted FreedomCon 2001 as a disambiguation (Worlds vs the convention hub). Hatnotes both ways. DecipherCon 2001 redirects here (the cancelled official event). Slash-merge of the title was considered and not done, because FreedomCon is a multi-game charity convention with a 2002 Philadelphia sequel.

3rd/4th still DeckTech over the 2020 forum swap.
Andy McClure's April 2001 DeckTech 15300 All Your Base Are Belong To Us is an MKOS scum list that used the meme title first. Winkelhaus 19798 is the FreedomCon Dark. Do not equate them.

No licensed exterior of the Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel (36th Street and Atlantic Avenue). Commons 429 blocked File:Virginia Beach in 2001 - panoramio.jpg (CC BY-SA 4.0, circa 2001). Used File:Virginia Beach from Fishing Pier.jpg (CC BY-SA 3.0, Ben Schumin, 2005) as the oceanfront hotel strip.
Kevin Shannon's Light deck: Hayes TR lists it as "?".
Lightsaber Combat and This Deal Is Getting Worse All The Time have no card pages; named in the table without minting.
Winkelhaus posted the full Dark 60 as DeckTech 19798 (All Your Base Are Belong to EUROPE). Not dested as a wiki 60 this pass.
TOR press OLDNEWS-3-996631229 has no HTTP 200 Wayback capture; dropped in favor of the TheForce.Net DecipherCon 2001 story.

QMC = Quiet Mining Colony; LSC = Lightsaber Combat; All Your Base = contemporaneous name of the Tatooine Occupation Dark (no Objective; Effect x2). Hayes called the same Dark decks Tat Occupation. Winkelhaus: the list placed 1st for him and 2nd for Akesson with slight modifications.
Hayes Day 2 1–8 list is Swiss-into-cut, not final places. Finals stay DeckTech home + forum.

FreedomCon World Championships banner moved to a centered masthead. DeckTech billed this event as FreedomCon.
Commons File:Virginia Beach in 2001 - panoramio.jpg (CC BY-SA 4.0, Fredlyfish4, circa 2001) now loads. GPS 36.8494,-75.9751 is the oceanfront hotel strip near 15th–17th Street, looking along the beach. The Sheraton sat at 36th and Atlantic. Caption does not name the Sheraton building. 2005 fishing-pier photo stays in the gallery.
Still no public-domain photograph that is the Sheraton facade itself. Hotel-site marketing JPEGs from 2007–2011 exist on Wayback and are copyrighted.
Labeled DeckTech Champs.jpg crops dested onto Brian Hunter, Martin Akesson, Hayes Hunter and Bastian Winkelhaus. Andy McClure is not on that labeled photograph.
