SWCCG Wiki:Preservation methods
This page describes how the SWCCG Wiki preserves the sources it cites.
Mission[edit]
The wiki's mission is to preserve the past and present history of SWCCG, to be a trusted, up-to-date archive of useful SWCCG information, and to be a primary resource that supports and grows the SWCCG community.[1] Much of that history lives on websites that can change or disappear, so the wiki keeps a preserved copy of each source it cites.
Citing original sources[edit]
Every important fact is cited to its original source: for example, a Players Committee decklist page or PDF, or a forum post. The citation gives the original link and a preserved copy on the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. A saved copy of a page on the Wayback Machine is called a capture.
Capturing pages the Wayback Machine cannot reach[edit]
Some pages cannot be captured directly, such as forum threads and Players Committee pages that block automated fetching. For these pages:
- The page is downloaded.
- A copy is hosted temporarily under
swccg.com/snapshots/. - The Wayback Machine captures the hosted copy.
- The capture is checked to confirm that it loads the real page content.
- The temporary copy is deleted from swccg.com.
How pages cite preserved copies[edit]
Wiki pages cite the original source and the Wayback capture as the preserved copy. They do not cite the temporary swccg.com address, because it is deleted once the capture is verified.
Private documents[edit]
Private documents supplied by Bill Bisco, such as emails, have personal email addresses and author metadata removed before they are hosted or captured.
No invented sources[edit]
The wiki never invents a source. When no source can be found for a fact, the fact is left out or noted on the page's talk page.
