For the card, see Limited Resources.

Limited Resources Format (LR) is a Players Committee constructed format. All the Decipher cards are included, the most abusive cards are removed, and some cards from virtual sets are included to help certain decks.[1] It was developed by Steve Skilton (forum handle stevetotheizz0) in 2020 and went live on GEMP in December 2020.[2][3] The PC page gives the card list as Limited Resources Format Version 1.0 (January 15, 2021).[1]

  • Type: constructed
  • Developed by: Steve Skilton (stevetotheizz0), who thanked "Matt H-T" (Matthew Harrison-Trainor) for helping come up with it[3]
  • Card pool: almost only Decipher cards, with a ban list and a short list of virtual cards[2][1]
  • GEMP: Limited Resources (limited_resources), live since 18 December 2020[3][4]

On GEMP it is named Limited Resources (code limited_resources). The definition uses Decipher set ids 1–13, premium ids 101–112 and Virtual Set ids 200–203, 205–207 and 210, and bans 726 card printings. It links to the PC page and is marked as not a game hall format.[4][5][6]

History

Proposal (July 2020)

On 31 July 2020 stevetotheizz0 proposed the format in the GEMP (Online Play) board of the Players Committee forum.[3] He argued that some Decipher cards set the power curve that Open is always stuck with, naming Wesa/WMAOP, Ref III Leia, maintenance cards and even EPPs.[3] His list was "basically almost all non-ep1 cards", minus cards thought too strong or "uncorrected mistakes in the game". It kept helpers such as ROPS and You May Start Your Landing.[3] He suggested it could replace the classic format and hoped to change the ban list every six months.[3] He thanked the PC and Gemp team, and "Matt H-T for helping come up with this format".[3]

Launch on GEMP (December 2020)

On 24 November 2020 he wrote that GEMP is open source and the format looked very easy to code. Batmouse (Anthony Howard) replied that he would run leagues for it once it was in.[3] On 18 December 2020 he posted that the format was live on Gemp and in the deckbuilder. A Gemp league was set up to start after Christmas.[3][7]

The Players Committee announced the format on 19 December 2020. It said Steve Skilton developed it "earlier in 2020" and linked his forum post.[2] It summed up LR as almost only Decipher cards, with a handful of virtual cards and toned-down power. Popular shields are played only through the Decipher Starting Effects, and Negative Play Experience cards are banned.[2] It named three target groups: new and returning players (NARP), players who want an "unsolved meta", and players who find Open too fast or too strong.[2] The Gemp League Administrator, Anthony Howard, set up an LR League with Gemp virtual prizes.[2]

Beta period and the January 2021 update

On 30 December 2020 stevetotheizz0 opened a feedback thread. He called the release a "Beta" period and planned an update in one to three months.[8] He asked whether to then change about 20 cards every six months.[8]

The update was posted on 19 January 2021 under the heading "UPDATE 1/15". It followed about a month of beta play and changed 38 cards: 9 banned and 29 added.[7][3] Mobilization Points and Staging Areas were removed, and Establish Control (V) and Rebellions Are Built On Hope (V) were added.[7] Enhanced Premiere Luke and Vader were added after players asked for EPPs. Bad Feeling Have I, Goo Nee Tay, Lost In The Wilderness, Always Thinking With Your Stomach and Honor Of The Jedi were banned.[7][3] Nine of the added cards came from Jabba's Palace Sealed Deck, for Agents In The Court and My Kind Of Scum.[7] The PC page's Version 1.0 list also carries an "Added 1/15" mark.[1]

Later changes

In February 2021 the Team Albany league played the format.[7] On 28 February 2021 stevetotheizz0 wrote that he was watching Responsibility Of Command and the remaining EPPs, and that Grimtaash might return.[9] On 31 August 2021 he wrote that the format was still an option on Gemp and that "another round of changes" had been added.[9] On 7 September 2021 Echo Base Trooper fixed the GEMP list, which had shown General Veers (V) in place of Veers (V).[9]

Deck size

Default deck size on GEMP 60 cards

The GEMP format definition sets no deck size, so GEMP uses its default of 60 cards.[4][6]

Card list

The PC page lists, set by set, which cards are legal and which are banned. For example, Theed Palace is banned, and most virtual cards are banned except a short list of named ones.[1]

Tournaments

No tournament on List of SWCCG tournaments is recorded in this format yet. Events are added here when their page gives this format.

Discrepancies

  • Creator's name. The PC format page says Limited Resources "was originally developed by Steve Izzo". That name links to forum thread t=76030.[1] The thread's author posts as stevetotheizz0 and links his decklist archive at stephenskilton.com.[3] The PC's December 2020 news post names the developer as Steve Skilton and links the same thread.[2] "Steve Izzo" matches the handle stevetotheizz0, not a second designer.
  • Date of the first update. The PC page dates Version 1.0 to January 15, 2021, and the forum post is headed "UPDATE 1/15".[1][7] The same update was posted on 19 January 2021, and its change summary is headed "1/18 Change Summary".[7]
