Strategy
The basic idea with this deck is to set up and hold Cloud City (what a surprise). To do this, I decided to go the mains and toys route instead of Troopers/etc.; it’s just more my style. I went pretty heavy on battling, both offensively and defensively. I also went with the Sabers/Matching Pilots/Cannons instead of the Admirals/Imperial Commands for a couple of reasons: first, I love being able to use the Cannons/Imperial Artillery, second, I have had the Executor slapped with a Power Pivot too many times to count, and I am sick of it. All in all, it works very well.
For those of you who don’t know the specific card strategies or haven’t played Dark Deal before, here it goes:
Start…I chose the exterior CC site as my start for a couple reasons: nice drain even w/o Dark Deal and I can deploy Blizzard 4 there if need be. I can also retrieve that essential CC location that I lose from my Reserve, or drop one from my hand to eat a drain and get it right back. The starting effects are pretty self-explanatory. No All Wrapped Up b/c I don’t need it or want it. No Mob. Points because a lot of people are packing the Don’t Do That Again effect.
Draw a hand and then pull the 2 interior CC sites into hand before you activate. Activate, pull something with your Objective (Bespin, Bespin: CC, CC Occupation or Dark Deal) and pull the Evader/Monnok or an I Have You Now with Crush if you like. Also pull the Docking Bay.
I like to play most of my locations early, though you may want to hold off on deploying them until you are certain you have the power to control them. With all of the sites out I activate 12 and give up a mighty 7, which isn’t great, but what can ya do? You get the force fast and you get all those 0’s out of your reserve deck. Within the first few turns you should definitely have the characters/ships to get a firm grip on CC, especially with all of the helper cards. Don’t forget to pull Dark Deal and Cloud City Occupation so you don’t lose them from the reserve.
Also, mind the text on the system and sector. You can add to the opponent’s deploy and your power in battles. I have forgotten this too often.
Try to set up CC: Occupation and Dark Deal ASAP and flip the objective, using the Obsidians/Tallon Roll at Bespin: Cloud City and the Executor and BHs at Bespin system (use the Twi’lek/WMAOP to pull They Must Never Again Leave This City to drop the Executor for free and save those Ties). The Sabers are there to help you drop the Falcon or the Outrider before he drops your ship’s power, or to shoot the X-wing with the cannons before he shoots you. Sometimes you just won’t be able to set up Dark Deal, but with Occupation and Presence of the Force, you will still be able to do some nice damage every turn. Here are some cards to help you in space:
Fel – add a BD and shoot his cannons for 1, nice
Obsidians – deploy cheap and their power is awesome at Cloud City, plus you can use Tallon Roll on ‘em and save them with They Must Never Again Leave This City
From this point on you just have to battle wisely. There are plenty of support cards to help you do just that:
Imperial Artillery - making your opponent lose a force and recycling a 7 is a good thing
Sniper/Dark Strike – get rid of a spy or make Luke lost after Vader hits him with his saber, this card is awesome
I Have You Now – pull it with Crush and you can use it with 3 different characters. Very, very nice
Evader/Monnok – pull it with Crush and take a look at your opponent’s hand for 4 force, or reduce his hand size. This card absolutely rocks!
Force Field – protect those Dark Jedi, of which there are 3 in this deck (Vader, Maul, Palpy)
Why Twi-lek and WMAOP instead of 2 of one or the other? – Well, this way if they grab one, I still have the other
All in all this is a very well-balanced and powerful objective. I have had great success with my previous version (11-1, I think), and I know this one is even better. Drains, beats, direct damage, it has it all. The one thing I wish I could fit in is more retrieval, but the Dark Side doesn’t have the luxuries that the Light Side does in that department. That’s about it…I am looking forward to you advice/suggestions.
Thanks!
