Strategy

By Martin Arlt[1]

What? No cool double-bladed lightsaber? Relax. This is the Tatooine expansion, remember? Maul just used a single-bladed version in this part of the movie. As such, this weapon follows the format established by other unique lightsaber cards, with one notable exception. When Maul is using this weapon, it cannot be stolen. This simple bit of gametext protects Maul's Lightsaber from annoying interrupts like Weapon Levitation, that can result in the Dark Side suddenly finding itself weaponless in a battle.

In addition, Maul can make excellent use of his weapon. Maul can effectively ignore the presence of Light Side characters of ability less than 4. This means he can Force drain while at their site, using Maul's Lightsaber to add 1 to the Force drain. He can also use cards like Sniper to take pot-shots at those poor, low-ability characters, gradually reducing their numbers at his site. Light Side alien swarm decks will want to avoid this armed Dark Jedi as much as possible.

Finally, like other lightsabers, Maul's Lightsaber gets two weapons destiny draws, making it easier to hit even high-ability characters like Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Maul also has the advantage of using Maul's Electrobinoculars to rig a high destiny draw, practically guaranteeing a hit against even a Jedi Master if you take the time!
