SWCCG Wiki:Disambiguation
A disambiguation page is a short list that lets a reader choose between pages that share a name. Searching for "Jawa" should land on a page that shows the four Jawa cards and lets the reader pick one. This guide follows Wikipedia's disambiguation guideline, adapted for cards.
When a title needs one
Make a disambiguation page when two or more different cards share a printed title. Different cards have different card IDs. Examples: the Light and Dark side versions of a card, an Episode I reprint in Coruscant, or a Virtual card with the same title.
These are not different cards and do not get a row of their own:
- the printed text, Decipher errata and PC errata pages of one card (Original, Errata, PC Errata);
- the Alternate Image (AI) of one card.
They are listed inside the card's row. Two pages for the same card ID are a duplicate: merge them into one page and redirect the other title.
Make one also when a card shares its name with a page readers search for, such as an expansion set or a team (see ICBW). The same applies when two expansion sets share a name.
Page titles
SWCCG cards have no primary version. The Light and Dark cards of a shared title are equals, and a reader who types the title has not said which one they want. So the bare title is the disambiguation page, and every card gets a qualified title.
Qualifiers, in this order, using only what is needed to tell the cards apart:
- Side —
(Light)or(Dark), when the cards are on different sides. - Set — the set's short name, when two cards are on the same side:
(Premiere),(Coruscant),(Special Edition),(Cloud City),(Reflections III). - Virtual cards keep the Virtual naming scheme:
Title (V) (Virtual Set N: Subtitle),Title (V) (Virtual Block N).
Never use (2), (location) or (card) as a qualifier. The infobox Title always shows the printed title without qualifiers.
| Printed title | Cards | Page titles |
|---|---|---|
| Tatooine: Cantina | Light and Dark, both Premiere | Tatooine: Cantina (Light) · Tatooine: Cantina (Dark) |
| Boba Fett | two Dark cards: Cloud City, Special Edition | Boba Fett (Cloud City) · Boba Fett (Special Edition) |
| Tatooine | Light and Dark, Premiere and Coruscant | Tatooine (Light) (Premiere) · Tatooine (Light) (Coruscant) · Tatooine (Dark) (Premiere) · Tatooine (Dark) (Coruscant) |
| Coruscant | Light and Dark, Special Edition and Coruscant | Coruscant (Light) (Special Edition) · Coruscant (Light) (Coruscant) · Coruscant (Dark) (Special Edition) · Coruscant (Dark) (Coruscant) |
When a card moves to a qualified title, its old title stays as a redirect, except the bare title, which becomes the disambiguation page. An expansion set that shares its name with a card takes the qualifier (expansion): the Tatooine set is Tatooine (expansion), and Tatooine lists the set and the four Tatooine cards.
Layout
- Lead: one line, "Title may refer to:".
- Cards: a table, oldest printing first. Columns: card image (80px, linked to the card page), card link, side, set, type. Card images help readers recognize the card at a glance; every row has one. When the card has errata or AI pages, list them in a last column, "Also".
- Other uses: non-card pages with the same name (expansion set, team, concept), one line each.
- See also: cards whose title starts with the same words (Tatooine Occupation, Tatooine: Mos Eisley), or a category.
- Footer:
{{Disambiguation}}, which explains the page and adds Category:Disambiguation.
A disambiguation page has no references, no lore and no game text. Each row gives only what a reader needs to choose.
Hatnotes
Every card listed on a disambiguation page carries a hatnote at the top:
{{Other versions|Tatooine}}→ For the other cards titled Tatooine, see Tatooine.
Errata and AI pages keep their own hatnote linking the card's main page.
Linking
Articles, decklists, set lists and templates never link to a disambiguation page. A link names the exact card: a Dark deck's Cantina links Tatooine: Cantina (Dark). Deck generators resolve the card from its side and set. SWCCG Wiki:Links to disambiguation pages lists every link that still lands on a disambiguation page; fix them by pointing each link at the intended card.
Links to a disambiguation page are correct only from other disambiguation pages, hatnotes and maintenance pages.
Search
Typing an exact title in the search box opens that page. Because the bare title is the disambiguation page, a search for "Jawa" lands on the choice of four Jawa cards.
