Interior

Interior is a Site icon. It marks a site that is conceptually "inside" (or partially inside): rooms, corridors, docking bay interiors, and the decks of starship and vehicle sites. The icon is printed in the icon boxes on the title bars of the location card. A site can carry the Interior icon on its own (an interior-only site) or together with the Exterior icon (an interior/exterior site, typically a docking bay).[1][2]
Rules[edit]
Interior-only sites[edit]
At a site with the Interior icon and no Exterior icon:[1][2]
- characters and vehicles may not shuttle;
- vehicles may not deploy or move there unless their card specifically allows it.
The rules give the example of Tatooine: a vehicle may move to Docking Bay 94 (interior/exterior) but may not enter the Cantina (interior-only). The vehicle's occupants have to disembark and move inside, leaving the vehicle at a nearby exterior site.[1]
This follows from the general location restrictions: Vehicles may exist only at exterior sites (unless aboard a starship), and starfighters may exist at exterior sites, systems and sectors. One exception is the Lift Tube, which can exist only at interior mobile sites.[3] Starships therefore may not deploy to interior sites. The rulebook's start-of-game example is that you cannot start with Han, Chewie, And The Falcon at the Audience Chamber.[4]
Collapsing[edit]
Only an interior site can be "collapsed" (e.g. by Collapsing Corridor). When that happens:[5]
- all cards at the site are lost;
- the site's printed Force icons and game text are canceled;
- the site stays in play, but each deployment or movement to or from it costs 1 additional Force.
A collapsed site is "rebuilt" when either player deploys a new copy of it. Docking bay transit to and from a collapsed docking bay is still permitted.
Bombers use the icon too:[6]
- at a related interior site, they may attempt "orbital bombardment" to collapse it, and the bomber does not move from the system;
- at a related non-interior site, they may "carpet bomb" it during a Bombing Run.
Layout[edit]
On the table, a planet's interior sites and exterior sites are kept apart. A site that is both interior and exterior separates the two groups, often a docking bay.[7]
The rulebook defines the "buffer sites" as Ahch-To: Jedi Temple, Capital City, Entrance Cavern, Ewok Village, Sith Temple Entrance, Turbolift Complex, Uplink Station and all interior/exterior docking bays. These may deploy only between the two groups. Any other interior/exterior site is laid out as if it were an exterior site.[7]
Starship and vehicle sites obey the same interior/exterior sequence, in their own group for their starship or vehicle.[8]
Game text[edit]
Many cards refer to interior sites directly. For example:
- Droid Detector deploys "at any interior site";
- Blast The Door, Kid! works "if a battle was just initiated at an interior site".[1]
Laser Gate deploys "between any two interior mobile sites". Path Of Least Resistance lets a character move between interior mobile sites.[9]
