Hypo is a Dark Device from A New Hope.
Card Text
Deploy on IT-O. If present with a captive during your control phase: You may ask one yes-or-no question about the cards in opponent's hand. Opponent must tell the truth or refuse to answer by losing 1 Force. OR Increase Force drain by 1.
Lore
Truth drugs like Bavo Six decrease resistance to interrogation. The enormous needle adds psychological pressure, facilitating the interrogation process.
Joke
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! makes the opponent lose 3 Force when you answer "no" to a Hypo question, just as Luke screams "No!" at the truth in The Empire Strikes Back.[1] See Jokes.
Rulings
- The requirement of being with a captive applies to both the yes-no question option and the add 1 to Force drain option.[2]
- Does not work with frozen captives.
- May only choose one option each turn.
- If stolen by Light, neither option may be used.

The Hypo entry is not marked Errata. Page 2 distinguishes clarification from the seventeen marked gameplay-changing errata and states that clarified text defines correct gameplay for all versions as of November 1998. This cites that historical clarification, not a transcription of the original face. The Players Committee 2023 Advanced Rulebook, p. 161, "Captives - Frozen", explicitly excludes Hypo from use on frozen captives. Lookup: Scomp: Hypo.
