Ewok is a retro constructed format: the Premiere - Death Star II card pool with a ban list of about a hundred cards. The Players Committee forum names it Premiere - Death Star II (Ewok), or PDS2E for short.[1] Bill Bisco created it for the 2026 Retro Ewok Championship and announced it on the forum on 20 March 2026, calling the event "a first of its kind tournament to explore a new Retro 'Ewok' Format".[1]

  • Type: constructed
  • Defined by: Bill Bisco, Players Committee forum (2026)
  • Card pool: Premiere through Death Star II, with a ban list
  • In use: 2026 –
  • Also called: Premiere - Death Star II (Ewok), PDS2E[1]
  • GEMP: Ewok (ewok) on play.swccg.com; none on the Players Committee GEMP

Card pool

On GEMP it is named Ewok (code ewok). Its card pool is the same as Premiere - Death Star II, Decipher set ids 1–9 and premium ids 101–111, with a ban list of 101 card printings. The definition links to the forum announcement.[2][3] The GEMP format definition sets no deck size, so GEMP uses its default of 60 cards.[2][4]

Goals

The announcement lists these goals for the format:[1]

  1. Create a new Retro Format that adds twists to an existing popular Retro Format.
  2. Ban cards and strategies that are too popular and/or too powerful.
  3. Get people playing decks and using strategies that have not been seen in PDS2 tournaments.
  4. Get people to play "Bad" Objectives.
  5. Tone back Power Creep.
  6. De-escalate the Battle Destiny and Immunity to Attrition Arms Race.
  7. Reduce must have starting effects and must have defenses in decks.

Ban list

The two sources give different ban lists. The forum list, as preserved on 21 October 2026, has five cards that are not on the GEMP list at commit ec48dc19. They are Bossk In Hound's Tooth, Dengar In Punishing One, Imperial Command and Ralltiir Operations (Dark Side) and Honor Of The Jedi (Light Side). Every card on the GEMP list is also on the forum list.[1][2] Both versions are given below.

The forum thread explains each ban and keeps a log of changes to the list, dated from 21 March to July 2026. For example, Asteroid Sanctuary was banned on 20 April 2026 after feedback that it would be abused in the format, and a July 2026 update added Honor Of The Jedi.[1]

History

When Bisco announced the format it was not yet coded on GEMP; the announcement says a GitHub pull request had the code.[1] play.swccg.com now has it as Ewok; the Players Committee format list does not.[2][6]

2026 Retro Ewok Championship

The announcement describes match play: each match is two games, one on each side of the Force, and the player with the higher net life force across both games advances, with fewer cards in the Lost Piles as the tiebreaker. Games use 60-minute timers per player. Entry was free, and the posted prizes were cash and playmats. Bisco funded the event himself.[1] No source on this wiki gives its dates or results yet.

Tournaments

No tournament on List of SWCCG tournaments is recorded in this format yet. Events are added here when their page gives this format.
