Surprise is a Dark Interrupt (Lost Interrupt) from Cloud City.
Card Text
Use 3 Force: Retarget an Interrupt or Utinni Effect which specifies a target to another appropriate target on the same side of the Force. OR Relocate any Effect (except those immune to Alter) deployed on a location to another appropriate location.
Lore
Boba Fett shifted his attention from Han to the pursuing Jedi initiate. Luke was unaware until the last second that he was being targeted.
Combos
- Surprise + Dark Waters The little known ability of Dark Waters to reduce Force drains makes it a fairly powerful card, especially if it can be used to follow your opponent's drains.[1]
- Surprise + Death Mark Since many decks play with Han and Chewie, you can retarget the Death Mark to whoever happens to be farther away at the time.
- Surprise + Death Squadron The only thing that weakens this otherwise pretty good card is that the Rebellion tends to stay away from it. Well, with Surprise, you can bring the Squadron to them.
Rulings
- May be played as a response to a just-initiated Interrupt or Utinni Effect, or as a top-level action targeting a Utinni Effect already on table.[1]
- When retargeting Nabrun Leids, choose either a new group of characters or a new destination site (not both).
- When choosing a new group of characters for Nabrun Leids, may not include any of the original characters.
- When choosing a new group of characters for Nabrun Leids, they may be a group at a different origin site.
- May not retarget something that isn't chosen until the result step, such as a card being taken into hand from Reserve Deck by e.g. The Signal.
- In order to relocate an Effect, it must be able to deploy on the new location at the time of playing this Interrupt (but ignore uniqueness rules).
- This only relocates a regular Effect, not other types such as Immediate Effect, Mobile Effect, Utinni Effect, etc.
