1996 Decipher World Championship
1996 Decipher World Championship was the first Star Wars CCG World Championship, played in Vail, Colorado. Raphael Asselin (Canada) defeated Bjørn Sørgjerd (Norway) in the final. Joe Alread finished 3rd and Kevin Reitzel 4th.[1][2]
The constructed pool was Premiere - A New Hope. Mains decks dominated: there was still little to counter Sense / Alter, or the raw power of Obi-Wan and Vader. Trandosite notes Joe Alread using seven Dark Maneuvers in his Dark deck.[1]

Several finalists later became Decipher staff or Squadron Members (Kevin Reitzel, and on Trandosite's list Tom Lischke, Kyle Heuer, Carl Mike Hardy, Paul Todd Feldman).[1]

Asselin's lists are the Scrye-era championship lists as reconstructed on SWCCGDB (2018). Reitzel published his own 1996 pair in 2025–2026 from the decks he kept; a commenter remembered those lists in Scrye.
