Yannick Lapointe was a World Finalist in 1999 and 2000 (North American Champion 2000; lost the 2000 Worlds final to Matt Sokol). Trandosite interviewed him on 21 October 2000.[1]

Yannick Lapointe is one of Quebec's finest players, and has maintained a high profile for several years. He has won a variety of events, including several regionals and the North American Contintental Championship. He excelled at DecipherCon 2000, finishing as runner-up behind Matt Sokol (NB. This interview was conducted before DCon 2K). He is a member of the "Ghetto Squadron" which also includes players such as TJ Holman and Chris Praskac.
1. Raphael Asselin has stated he saw you and another player playing SWCCG in a school cafeteria and that's what hooked him. Where did you interest for the game come from, and how did you get involved?
I was buying a comic in a comic store and saw the black box of star wars, i ask the store owner what was that and he told me it was a card game. I bought 5 starters and start like that with 2 other friends (i was the lucky one, i got a vader in my first 5 starters!).
2. Players from Quebec are well renowned for their pride in their skills, not only in a provincial or national sense, but in a world sense. Where does this pride come from, and does it help you overcome the difficulties associated with playing the best players in the world?
We believe we have the strongest field of players and we prove it by always doing well every where we go, and d-con2000 is no exception. 5 people from Québec are going for day-1 and 2 for day-2 and i am sure 3 out of 5 from day-1 will make it to day-2
3. SWCCG has seen a lot of changes over the years. Which ones have you liked, which have you disliked and what would you change now?
What i dislike is what decipher doing to other strategies other than main and toys (with d*2 they killed operative, scanning crew, insert and more and now with jp:otsd they killed rops and honor). I LOVE objectives and the new starting interupt that allowed you to get 3 effect (most broken card ever!). If i could change something, i chose to change nothing even if i dislike some stuff i like to adapt to the new set or rules
4. Your regional final confrontation with Alex Klammrodt was a little controversial. How do you feel about the situation, then and now that it is a moot point?
This was the worst final ever, i have played in many finals and never feel the pressure but for an unknown reason i feel it during this one and played like a scrub making MANY mistake (after this final i said to myself i will NEVER lose another final, and i still believe i wont)
5. What are your interests outside of SWCCG?
Music, movies, hang out with friend and my girlfriend Nancy she is awesome (she always supports me)
6. If you could play any player in the world who would it be, and why?
I would like to have my revenge against Bastian for the lost in 99 world. Clint Hays, i have play 5 time against Steven Lewis but never had the chance to play Clint. And Gary Carman it is always fun to play or talk to him
7. What is your involvement with Ghetto Squad, and do you think organizations such as this are beneficial to SWCCG?
no, this is more for fun
8. If you were to teach a new player one lesson on how to improve their game, what would it be? Why do you think this is important?
For me what makes a player a good player is asking why did you lose this game?
If you know why you lose, you will win the next one, but it takes time be patient, just take the time to analyse every game. It is important to teach new player or take time to show how to improve their game, if we want to keep the game alive
9. Who do you think will be the gold, silver and bronze medallists at this years World Finals?
Hard to say but, iam going for the gold. Gary take another one. and the Underdog Dominic Gaudrault take the other, maybe a all Québec final:) dont laugh iam sure it can happen.
