1997 Decipher World Championship was the second Star Wars CCG World Championship, at the Marriott Hotel in Norfolk, Virginia.[1] Philipp Jacobs (Germany) defeated Michael Riboulet (United Kingdom) in the final. It was the first Worlds final for either country.[2]

The constructed pool was Premiere - Cloud City. Cloud City had just hit the shelves. Defending champion Raphael Asselin made the final twelve (12th). Asselin later said he lost a game by 2 to Gavin Palmer on a DS-61-4 passenger / Devastator ruling.[3]

Jacobs barely made day 2, rebuilt Saturday night, and in the final opened with a 23-Force win on Dark Mains & Toys against Riboulet's manipulator. Riboulet's Light was a Dagobah deck Jacobs had beaten the previous round. The prize Jacobs named was a 10-day trip Washington–Las Vegas–Los Angeles.[1][2]

Joe Alread called Riboulet's manipulator "a truly great deck....that I had never seen before." Trandosite treats 1997 as the birthplace of that strategy.[2]
