2000 Decipher World Championship
2000 Decipher World Championship was the fifth Star Wars CCG World Championship, played 5–7 October 2000 at DecipherCon 2000 in the Doubletree Resort and Conference Center, Kissimmee, Florida. Matt Sokol (United States) defeated Yannick Lapointe (Canada) in the Final Confrontation.[1][2][3]

The constructed pool was Premiere - Death Star II. Wikipedia and Star Wars Insider 52 list 72 Day 1 players. Francis K. Lalumiere, writing from the floor on 5 October, put 170 competitors in the main hall for Day 1. Sokol was player 36 on Day 1. He lost the first final game and won the second; combined score 2 (+5) to 2 (−5).[2][1][4][5][6]
Format
- Environment: Premiere - Death Star II
- Site: DecipherCon 2000, Doubletree Resort and Conference Center, Kissimmee, Florida
- Dates: 5–7 October 2000 (Thursday–Saturday); the convention continued through 8 October
- Field: 72 Day 1 (Wikipedia / Insider 52); 58 Day 2 (Decipher results page)[1][7][4]
Day 2 was eight games (4 Light / 4 Dark). Twelve advanced to Day 3. Day 3 reset those twelve for four games (2 Light / 2 Dark); top two played the Final Confrontation.[8]
The last Day 2 slot was Dominic Gaudreault 10 (+70). Martin Akesson 10 (+69) missed by one differential. On Day 3, Kevin Shannon's Game 2 Dark vs Steve Brentson was a Modified Win by 14 (+1 victory point). A full win there would have moved Shannon past Sokol on the cut math; that example is on Tournaments#2000 World Championship — Sokol, Shannon, and a modified win.[8]

Final Confrontation
The match was played in a closed room. The audience watched on a large screen next door, with commentary by Joe Alread, Kyle Heuer, and Kendrick Summers. Jean-Luc Simard's Decipher report and Sokol's Decktech report are the play-by-play sources.[6][9]
Game 1: Sokol Hidden Base (X-wings / Numbers) against Lapointe Bring Him Before Me. Sokol's Light list went in at 59 cards; he added Civil Disorder at registration and the deck had no Luke. Lapointe won by 20.[6][9]
Game 2: Sokol ISB Operations (walkers / Sandwhirl) against Lapointe's Super Falcon list. Sokol needed at least 21 Force of differential. An Abyssin Ornament left him on 25 Life Force; Lapointe drew his last card. Combined: Sokol 2 (+5), Lapointe 2 (−5).[6]
Team Albany built the ISB list overnight after Day 2. Sokol later won the Sunday team constructed event with that group.[9][2]
The Player's Council posted the original Decipher streaming video of both games:
